LIFES THIS EDITIUN OF THE MOUNT MARTY is based on a totally new idea in annual construct1on With the idea in mlnd that what the students wanted was a ccmpre hensive picture of the1r school life we have attempted to highl1ght the school year by using a greater variety of pic tures and cuttlng down on the amount of copy whlch usually accompanies such pic tures Knowing the great popularity f Life magazine, and b0l10V1Dg that its straightforward presentation of ideas, the editors decided to follow Life's style in the construct1on of the Mount Marty The editors of Life gave us per misslon to copy almost exactly their cover, even down to the characteristlc colors Throughout the book we have at tempted to follow L1fe's layout and copy patterns More than ever this year the annual has been the product of the students themselves The only professional work was done by Ralph Atkisson, who took the senior pictures and the homeroom groups All other pictures are the product of Bill Sullivan and John Amos, official student photographers, or were made by these people under the direction f Principal Bentley It may be that the quality of the work has suffered thereby but it is also true that under this plan the annual becomes more nearly a student progect Special thanks should go to Ralph Atkisson for his valuable assistance in making enlargements and for critical suggestionsg to the Kansas City Hansen for the1r loan of negatives used ln mak ing many of the pictures in this book, to Bette Nelle Straub and Den Tanlinsm for their work in typing copy, and to the many groups who cooperated so well IT IS MORE OR LESS appropriate that such an entirely different annual should come this year, for the school term has produced several innovations and changes One of the latter occured when the traditional junior play was replaced by the more variegated junior n1ght This new venture was designed primarily to g1ve more people a chance to partici pate This year, too, marked the second anniversary of the junzor pr , which took the place of the time hallowed jun lor sen1or banquet For the second year 1n successlon Rosedale landed a semi flnalist in the Summerfield scholarship examinations, John Margrave taking the tests in Law New, too, were the two new parking lots and the Booth avenue extensions wh1ch now g1ve the 'Hill' excellent park1ng f8Ci1it198 and traffic control for school events The cafeteria shared 1n these 1m provemsnts when fluorescent l1ght fix tures and a new dr1nking fountain were 1nstalled Not the least of the changes was the sudden awakening of a boys' homeroom to the possibilities of SChOl88t1C a chievement The Only one in the history of the school,a boys' homeroom won the senior high scholarship banner, and won it not once, but five t1m6B8 Homeroam uo6, with Philip R Keeler as sponsor, set this enviable record Odds and ends which should be men tionedz the Delphian's and Miss Gra ham's bust of Shakeapeareg the new day l1ght screen for classroom pictureag the new flashgun for the school camera, the new gym teacher,MTs Sara Jane Fickertt, who took Miss Dorothy McCauley's place after her resignation, the new speakers in the auditorium. O . . . ' . - . o popularity lay in its simple layout and rence together with thirty other boys. - O o ' . O
