THE OLD SCHOOL. . .AND THE NEW They call us a boom-Town . . . l guess They mean ThaT Roseburg has expanded since The phoTo of The old senior high school Cpicfured belowj was Taken. H-m-m-m. ThaT old school exisTed 'way back when The girls had To worry abouT middy uniforms and dragging hemlines and The boys choked in Ties and sfiff whiTe shirTs. Then, They were puTTing ouT The mighTy hoT Fords and The WesT was growing like ragweed . . . sTill is, for ThaT maTTer. The Townspeople ThoughT They'd builT The school clear ouT in The coun- Try . . . a few years laTer The ciTy was pushing Laurel- wood righT inTo our laps. Before long, in January 1926, They puT up The new building, converTed The old FullerTon Grade School inTo The Social ArTs Build- ing, builT The new Library ArTs Building-wiTh big windows and modern green blackboards and yellow chalk-supposed To be easier on The eyes. AbouT The middle of my freshman year, They finished The new gymnasium for over S400,000 . . . made us Take off our shoes before we could walk on The shiny floors . . . had our phoTographer go up in a plane in order To Take a couple aerial views ThaT would show you how big we've really become.
