THE UMPQUA Class offlcers for our Jumor Vear were Phil Smgleton Presldent Beulah Compton Secretarv Wllllam Thrall Treasurer Randall Smclalr Ser geant at Arms and MISS Ueland Advlsor After we had settled down we entertamed the Sophomores on November 11 wlth a l'9C8DtlOll at whlch the Roseburg and Ashland football teams were also our guests On March 23 we were the guests of the Sophomores Both receptlons were hlghly enjoyable and w1ll not soon be forgotten On Mav 18 we enterta1ned the Semors at a fue course banquet ln the Hlgh School gymnaslum Our record m the lnterclass contests was agam very good for we won fmrst places 1n basketball debate and extemporaneous speaklng Our two de baters Paul Trueblood and Harvey Roser were also on the school team It was dllflllg our Junlor year that Carlo became one of us He was just an ordlnary dog but so full of pep we consldered h1m the ldeal mascot for our class He was formally mtroduced at a student body assembly Perhaps Carlo was I'9SpOllS1bl6 for our very successful year for we achleved many honors and at the end of the year had twenty one polnts ln the mterclass rn alty contests to the Semors twenty two Our Senlor year has been our most xmportant one and It should be for we are nearmg our goal After due conslderatlon we elected the fol lowmg offlcers to gulde us through our buslest year Wllllam Thrall Presldent Ferroll Iles V1ce Presldent Carr1e Gllbert Secretary Thelma Trefren Treasurer Randall Slnclalr Sergeant at Arms Mlss Ueland was aga1n selected as Adv1sor Although our Semor year has been the most enjoyable It has not been entlrely free from hard work To begm wlth we have labored to achleve the deslred goal 1n the mterclass contests Merle Clark Won flrst place 111 the lmpromptu speaklng contest and Paul Trueblood 1n the readlng contest Our two debaters Loulse J enmngs and Vernon Taylor took second place 111 debate We are justly proud of Eugene Bowden for capturmg flrst place IH the Boys Declamatlon Contest Marguer1te Rusho also deserw es mentlon for her excellent work 111 the Glrls Declama t10H Contest Both our Glrls and Boys basketball teams won second place also our Tug of War team took second place As thls Umpqua goes to press the Class of 24 has a total of '74 pomts m the contest whlle our closest opponent has 18 We hope for a 24 on the Interclass Rlvalry Cup Our soclal ex ents for the year conslsted of f1rst the Semor Freshman receptlon at whxch members of the football team were guests The Freshmen entertamed the Semors Wlth a dehghtful receptlon 1n the form of a Sprlng Frollc The SGHIOFS have had one xery enjoyable p1CI11C whlch was glven by the11 class adxlsor lVllSS Ueland Durmg our Hlgh School career the Class of P4 has presented two of the best Hlgh School productlons ex 61 W1l2I18SS9d by the people of Rose burg Both due to the excellent coachlng of 'Nhss Leland and llfllSS Ross were very successful A great part of the success of these two plays IS III! . .
