THE UMPQUA lillsfolof or Tun Qnass one Z4 When we the Class of 24 f1rst entered Roseburg Hlgh School Ill the fall of 1920 we were no doubt a bunch of green looking mfants We had the mlshaps that are common to Freshmen such as gettlng 1Ht0 a room of lofty Semors or rece1v1ng our baptlsm of vsater from the hands of some learned Sophomore But we surpassed even the most l1beral expectatlons of the upper classmen and orgamzed our class of a hundred thirty two 1nto a workable organlzatlon The followlng offlcers were elected Wll 11am Thrall Pres1dent Phll Slngleton Vlce Pres1dent Lucllle Lenox Secretary Chfford Thornton Treasurer and Mxss Meek Class Advlsor We had not spent many days 1n school before the mlghty Semors entertalned us Wlth a receptlon We showed our appreclatlon to the Semors by successfully entertalmng them IH the latter part of the school year From the very beglnnlng the Class of 24 has been actlve Jn school affalrs Durlng our Freshman year our boys basketball team won the lnterclass champlonshlp of R H S thereby gammg three polnts for the IH debate Altogether we made eleven pomts 1n the mterclass contests an envlable record for Freshmen at that t1me Our Sophomore year was f1lled Wlth a varlety of thmgs We started the year by electmg Merle Clark Pres1dent Paul Trueblood VICE Presl dent Esther Edman Secretary Helen Churchlll Treasurer and Guy Perr1n Sergeant at Arms Mr Rlchards as Class Advlsor gluded us safely through our second year of Hlgh School The flrst thlng of 1m portance 1n our Sophomore year was the receptxon glwen by the Jumors We enjoyed th1s event so greatly that we retal1ated by entertalmng them In the lnterclass contests our basketball team agam captured the laurels We also won f1rst place 1n read1ng second place m debate and other places g1v1ng us a total of n1ne poxnts 1n the 1nterclass rnalry contests Thus ended our second year 111 R H S After another summer had sllpped away we agaln assembled No longer were vue looked upon w1th contempt We were Jumors now Our T n 5 f D , . . . 5 I ' 7 2 ' 3 . , . 3 . . , . - .
