TABLE OF CONTENTS STUDENT LIFE CLASSES ADMINISTRATION FACULTY PERSONALITIES SPORTS ORGANIZATIONS HONORS JUNIOR HIGH ADS 153 175 The Rosebud-Lott yearbook staff is proud to dedicate the 1980-81 edition of Cougar Tales to our principal, Mr. Vic Roper. He has been associated with the Rosebud-Lott School District for six years. Mr. Roper is always willing to put forth time and effort to help the students and faculty at Rosebud-Lott. In addition, he is considerate, understanding, calm, patient, sincere, impartial, and patriotic. Mr. Roper, we are fortunate to have you as our principal. Sharing the Days The year 1981 marked the tenth anniversary of the consolidation of the Rosebud and Lott high schools into Rosebud-Lott High School. It also marked the beginning of a new decade, that of the 80’s. The 60’s were marred by violence both on college campuses and in the nation’s cities. The 70’s were the decade in which the nation pulled out of a war that had less than the wholehearted support of the American public. Although the economic picture was not very promising at the New Year, the decade did get off to a good start with the return in January of the 52 Americans held hostage in Iran for 14V2 months. Perhaps that was an augury for a more auspicious decade than the previous two. At any rate this ten-year period looks as if it might be a more formal one than the two that preceeded it. The Presidential in- auguration was the most formal of the past several and long, white gloves and ballroom dancing looked as if they were on the way in, in Washington, D.C., at least. Meanwhile at Rosebud-Lott, the in fashions were still blue jeans, cowboy hats, boots, fashions that had been around this part of the country for a long time. Also characteristic of the school was the closeness of its peo- ple, not just student-to-student, but also teacher-to- teacher and teacher-to-student. There was laughter in the halls and sometimes quite a bit in the classrooms — a warm, sharing laughter that was a result of our closeness. The gossip group. And then he said ... Steve Harmon listens intently to the lecture. 7 Thinking hard. Concentrating on the stairs. Buster Jones helps hang signs. ROSEBUD -LOTT HIGH SCHOOL 9 Moments of Our Lives The closeness we enjoy as students at Rosebud-Lott High School lasts all-too-brief a time. The years here are soon flown. They are years of transition — the years between being children and being adults. Here for four to six years we have the privilege of being both — of trying on the responsibilities and roles of adulthood while still being the possessors of the privileges of childhood, it is only when we are gone that we will finally and fully realize just how precious and unique this time is. No matter then how we wish the time back — it can never return. We can. however, return in our memories, and that is what this book is all about. We. the yearbook staff, hope that in the succeeding pages many vivid memories are stored just waiting for the day you need them. Cougars prepare for pep rally. Talking things over. Through your hard work and diligent effort, you have enhanced your chances for future success. For our senior students, this year has been both an ending and a beginning. You have ended a season in your life which will, in later years, yield fond memories: you have begun your journey into adulthood, a journey which will offer new challenges and opportunities. For our undergraduates, this has been a year of building. You have built academic skills which will carry you successfully through the remainder of your school years; you have built friendships which will sustain you in future years. Best wishes to each of you for future success. If you continue to respond to challenges in a positive, assertive manner, your future will be bright. The lone district win, along with all the pre-district races, had to be forfeited when two players were discovered to be ineligible. The girls reached their peak early in the season when the offense was at its strongest. The highlight of the year was the victory over Class AAAAA Belton. During the district race, the overall team play became too inconsistent to make a strong showing. Four of the team members were selected to the all-district team. I think I just dislocated my arm. Home Cookin’ Is Our Specialty” Joe, Barbara, and Robin Little Hwy. 77 Rosebud 583-4727 202 In Memory of Mr. Claude E. Moore On the morning of February 9. 1981. Mr. Claude E. Moore reported to work at Rosebud-Lott High School as he had done for the past 10 years. Shortly after his arrival he became ill and was taken home where he later died. Mr. Moore was assistant maintenance supervisor of buses and was always willing to help wherever he was needed. He was a very outgoing and dedicated man. He was a true friend to the students and staff of Rosebud-Lott ISD. A man who walked among us for many years will be greatly missed. 203 COUGAR TALES STAFF We were busy putting together the eleventh edition of Cougar Tales before the school year began, working in a united effort to give you a book of pleasant memories to treasure forever. We uttered cries of anguish when a roll of film turned out blank and we had a fast approaching deadline, but somehow we always managed to meet them. We worked long and hard to pro- duce the best yearbook we could and we hope we have captured the exciting experiences that happened to you. It was a year of deadlines, copy blocks, pica, triplicates, and pictures. It was, however, a fun year that we have enjoyed bringing to you in the 1981 Cougar Tales. We hope you have many hours of enjoyment looking back at your high school years. 1981 Cougar Tales Staff Another roll of film is blank? Starting school after a scorching summer of record-setting 100-degree temperatures, our main concerns were getting reacquainted with friends and preparing for the Friday night Football games. We were ecstatic over our first homecoming victory over Reicher in several years. We will soon forget the deaths of the exiled shaw of Iran and Yugoslavia President Tito, but our memories of high school will live on. We will not forget the classes, the special times we had at sports events and in discussing who shot J. R. Ewing on the popular television series “Dallas.” We may have been more concerned with things at home, but the release of the 52 Americans held hostage by Iran brought joy to the halls of R- LHS. Not everything turned out good, but it was dif- ferent and it made us another year older and wiser. f©©SC505 - © oday loe'ZZ Atari a new Zifie And we’ZZ Aay our Za.At goodbye.a To aZZ the fariendA we’ve gfiom to Zove With tohom we've Zaughed and cried.
