This tradition is based on knowledge of the speed with which tra- ditions and cultures have moved in this area. From the civiliza- tion ofthe native nomads, who lived off the bison, through the period of great ranching enterpriser to irrigation of smaller farm unitsg to the larger units operated on a mechanical basisg less than a single century has elapsed. We are now entering another era of human effort which became effective with the emergence into orbital space, this past year. This community has made contributions, through its school, to the leadership of our state and nation, in keeping with the tradi- tion of one of the earliest Montana settlements. The student body has shown its determination to keep to the traditions, but has ac- cepted the need to honor those customs in new wayS. It has beena pleasure, as well as a new educational experience for me and the rest of the school staff to work with the SIUd6UCS Of this school. We take this means of expressing our DCSI wishes and hopes for the graduating class of 1958. i Polytechnic ! i l 1 I i EDWIN E, KADRMAS, B. S. WANDA L. SCHLETTE Transferred from Lowell, Massachusettsg Brier Busi- ness Manager 4g Class Vice -President 45 Chorus 4 f Class History Four years ago 17 Freshmen walked up the stairs of Rosebud High School. There we met with our sponsor Mr. Norman, and chose our Class Officers. Dale Dunning was elected President, Henry Biery, Vice-President, June Anderson, Secretary- Treasurer, and Diane Lentz, Reporter. Other members of the Class were: Phoebe Anderson, Dee Wilson, Walter Quinlan, Joe Konkright, Florence Chapman, Harriet Morton, Helen Carranco, Connie and Consie Covarrubias, Pearl Butcher, Julia Martinez, Angie Quinlan, Tom Adams, and Louisa Pabolo. The second semester we moved into our new High School building. We lost Dee Wilson and Walter Quin- lan, who quit school. Joe Konkright, was transferred to Miles City. Louisa Pabolo was transferred to Hysham. As we entered our Sophomore year, Mrs. Rolston, was our sponsor. Officers were: Helen Carranco, President, Carole Brady, Vice-President, Diane Lentz, Secretary- Treasurer, and Angie Quinlan, Reporter. We initiated the freshmen and gave them a party. We were sorry to lose two more of our students, Julia Martinez and Tom Adams. Our Junior year was the hardest of all, because we had to work very hard to raise money to put on the Junior-Senior Prom. On May 11, 1957, we held the Prom. The theme was Hawaiian Cruise. Our gym was decorated with a star-ceiling, and a huge sailing boat at the front of the stage, named appropriately, Hawaiian Crui- ser. Georgia Coon was Queen and Dale Dunning, King. The Junior-Senior banquet was held at the Met Cafe, in Miles City, on May 12, 1957. Class Officers were: Dale Dunning, President, Harriet Morton, Vice-President, Carole Brady, ClassRe- porter. Our Junior Class Play was Miss Adventure. We worked hard putting it on, but we also enjoyed it. We lost Carole Brady, who was transferred to Worden. The beginning of our Senior year, we started out with nine students. We were very glad to have Wanda Schlette join us. She came from Berkeley, California. The Class Officers were as follows: Harriet Morton, President, Wanda Schlette, Vice- President, Dale Dunning, Secretary-Treasurer, and Pearl Butcher, Class Reporter. Our Class Play was The Ghost in The Belfry, under the direction of Mrs. Richard- son. On April 24th, we left on Skip Day. We all were very glad to get away from school for a few days. We enjoyed ourselves very much and we were glad to get back to school. Diane Lentz and Dale Dunning attended High School Week, at Bozeman, May 1, 2, and 3. The Junior-Senior Prom was given May 10, 1958. Our theme was The Golden Nugget. Owen McDonagh was King, and Helen Carranco, Queen. Baccalaureate Services were held on May 25, and our four years ended with Com- mencement Exercises held on May 27, 1958. Class Will We, the Senior Class of Rosebud High School, being in our own minds, sane and distorted as the case may be, and rundown condition after years of weakening study do hereby make our last stand in preparing the following Last Will and Testament. FIRST: To Mr. King we leave a bit of long hair music. The noisy library study halls go to Mrs. Richardson. In remembrance of tedious bookkeeping days we leave the balances that didn't balance to Mr. Kadrmas. The remains of the biology mouse Herman, we leave to Mr. Heaney. To Mr. Schmidt we leave our hoarse voices after a basketball game. SECOND: To the bus drivers we unselfishly will an over large supply of candy and gum wrappers, spit wads, noisy voices and also the long waits after school for the slow moving riders. To the cooks, Mrs. Penner and Mrs. Linscott, we leave a four years supply of cooking and dirty arsnes. To Joe Reid, our faithful janitor, we will the lost overshoes, the dirty halls, scrap paper and etc. THIRD: A few personal possessions we wish to dispose of thus: I, Connie Covarrubias, leave my day dreams to Shirley Lorsen, my disliking for writing letters to John Penner and my thoughts of New Years to Leslie Snodgrass. I, Helen Carranco, leave my long, black hair to Diana Lange, my cheerleading outfit to Claira Fahrenbruck and my boyfriends to anybody who is fool enough to take them. I, Consie Covarrubias, will my artistic ability to Mr. Heaney, the letters I re- ceive to Owen McDonagh and my dates with Tom Miller to Jaynie Patrick. I, Harriet Morton, leave my cheering outfit to Sharon Snodgrass, my letter writ- ing to Jim Polich and my long finger nails to Sandy Morton. I, Diane Lentz, bequeath my class ring to Judy Biery, who can't ever seem to keep track of hers, my grades to Clifford Campbell and my running around and goof- ing off to Janiece Smith. I, Wanda Schlette, will all the flat tires I see to my cousin, Kenny Sweedland, my curly hair to Sharron Reid, and the good times I've had to Lois Kipf, I, Pearl Butcher, leave my dangerous 1940 Chevrolet to Mr. Schmidt, my horse to Ken Kipf, and my dates with Bruce to Connie Clark. I Henry Biery, leave all the girls that I've won in card games to John Penner, my curly hair to Andria Luhman, and my football playing ability to George Perry. I, Dale Dunning, leave my athletic ability to anyone who can improve upon it, my good grades to Arlene Pattison and my jokes and all my fun in high school to Fidels Lopez. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we set our scribbled names, found somewhere in the school building, this twenty-seventh day of May, nineteen hundred and fifty-eight. QSEALJ Class Poem Our hearts are filled with happiness Our souls are full of joy. Now we're thinking - - our last year! Hip-hip hooray! Oh boyl We've each done our share Each year we have passed. We're naturally happy That this year is the last. Our many teachers, Short, medium or tall, Maybe we did groan, But still we loved them all. You ask what we 'll miss? The classes and clubs And the moaning and groaning Of the football scrubs. The fun at our class meetings Our co-operative ways, The plays, and the teams's games Are memories of high school days. We 'll miss this school: Each teacher and room, Each book and eraser, Each pencil and broom. Every friend and pal, Every game we would play, Every guy and gal, Every month and day. Tho' we've big plans ahead of us, We still have a sigh For memories of days spent At Rosebud High. Class Prophecy It was 5 o'clock in the morning, May 29, 1968, as I sat at the dining room table at our ranch home near a small town in northern Nevada. My husband and I had just gotten home one hour earlier from a 5 day trip to Rosebud, Montana, to a class re- union of the class of '58. As I sat here looking through the 1958 Brier I thought back to my old classmates and the wonderful lives they are leading. Oh, yes, I almost forgot the most important thing. Rosebud took over the railroad station from Forsyth. It is such a beautiful town nowg 5 parks and all with swimming pools, too. I found that Dale Dunning had taken traveling to his fancy and on one of his very first trips abroad he met a beautiful French model from Paris and they were married a few weeks later. On his next trip he plans to go to Russia where he is going to try to learn the secret of their new three pound Sputnik. Henry Biery is a Fleet Admiral in the Navy. He was one of the naval geniuses in World War III. He married a pretty Texan girl and is now the proud father of five sons. Naturally they are all Navy boys. One thing really surprised me, though. The twins, Consie and Connie Covarrubias were separated from each other. Difficult to believe, huh? Consie married some Ash- land, Montana boy, and is living in Hollywood. She is a top fashion designer for the Twentieth Century Fox Studios. Connie is also a prominent fashion designer and living in New York City. She told me that she sure liked the East. I don't know whether she has a guy out there or just because of the beautiful fashion styles. Helen Carranco is the director of a nationwide chorus. She calls it The Big Swing Every summer the chorus tours the United States for three months. Helen married a real swell guy from Ashland, and she is very happy. Harriet Morton married Bob the summer of '58, They have four children. All boys They are living at Lake Ellison, west of Helena, where Harriet is the owner of a lakeside resort. Wanda Shlette came all the way from Hawaii. She isn't married yet, but told me she had a couple fellows on the line. Right now she is a secretary for a big air line company in Hawaii. Diane Lentz was the same as ever, full of fun and ready for a good laugh. I found out that she had married a rich beet farmer by Billings, who later struck oil on his farm. Yes, how I wish it were possible to tum back to my high school days in R. H. S. Back to the days of the high school parties and dances. But alas, the time has come when I must bid my goodbye. In case you have been wondering who I am, this is Pearl Butcher. I gave up my idea of being the first woman to go up in a satellite. A if ' 'ik L , 'Jw ,-1 f X f f W UC E fi!! .V 1 .91 -g p. Coach ps Message The 1957-58 school year has been an encouraging year. This was another year in which the student spirit was high. The athletes can say, it was an honor and a privilege to wear the uniform of this school. The football, basketball, and track teams are to be commended for their time de- voted in the interest of the school, community and for their own betterment in physical and mental stature. There are no substitutes for the industry, integrity and loyalty shown by you. Many of us on the outside are in there pitching and hoping for your development and success. Community, faculty and students have an obligation to be loyal to all school activ- ities. Those who are not loyal couldn't be sold to any other school at a dime per sack- ful. Athletics is an important part of a student's life. It is life itself. If one cannot give the price required of an athlete, then he has made his choice - - to leave us alone. Congratulations to the people responsible for one of the school's most successful foot- ball seasons. We have come a long way - - may next year be another year to remember. Whether boy or girl you can give or take from the program. So may I say, A Special Thanks to you in the Senior Class who are leaving this year and who have so loyally supported the healthy athletic program of Rosebud High School. The school will always be indebted to you. Accompanying them were the members of the wedding party. It is learned that there are many strange happenings going on at the old church. Surprise crowding surprise brings the play to a dramatic climax, and it is discovered that a band of smug- glers have been using the church as a base for their operations. Kenny Sweedland and David Fahrenbruck came to our rescue and filled out the parts. Mrs. Richardson was director.
