Like many a class before them, this day seemed to be so far in the future! Yet, Now is the Hour, as the song goes. Only memories are left, memories of many things. The Freshman initiation in the fall of 1953, the proms, basketball games, trips and other good times will always be remembered whenever the classmates meet each other in the years to come. This day is significant for our underclassmen as well. For them, it is a reminder that, as each day passes, their high school days draw closer to an end. They must realize that preparation for this memorable day should begin on the first day of school in their Freshman year. Education and achievement are not rewards to be secured in a last minute rush to deliver. The last minute is here much sooner than we think. This lesson is most aptly expressed by an ancient Oriental poet: The Moving Finger writes: and, having writ, Moves on: nor all your Piety no Wit Shall lure it back to cancel half a line Nor all your Tears wash out a word of it. --Omar Khayyam Superintendent School Board of District 0.12 Around the table are: Prank Lange, Bill Smith, Jack Dawson, Ruby Jackson, clerk: Chet Larson, chairman: Ike Nees. The school board and clerk are the people behind the scenes who make a school function properly. Sometimes their efforts are not appreciated when they are doing their best but in the long run they are appreciated. They try to keep the budget balanced and they select and hire faculty members. The group worked well together and did their best. They all deserve a big Thank You. The school board in action at one of their regular meetings Girls' State Message I was very happy to hear that I was elected to attend Girls' State for the year of 1956 at Montana State College in Bozeman. It was an experience that I'll never forget. As soon as we all arrived, we were divided into two parties, four counties, and eight cities. We had regular meetings just like the real govern- ment so that we understood more of what it is really like. We had Parliamentary Procedure, religious meetings and assemblies everyday be- sides the governmental meetings and elections. On our last day there we had the Governor's Ball. Since the Honorable Governor Hugo Aronson was out of state, we had the honor of listening to Lieut. Governor Gosman give the speech at the Governor's Ball. I want to thank everyone that made it pos- sible for me to go. It was really wonderful to meet all of the girls and develop new friendships. Marcie Boys' State Message I was very lucky to be chosen to represent Rosebud High School as a delegate for the 1956 Boys' State Session held at the Western Montana College of Education located at Dillon, Montana. Up there was a program for the delegates that built both social and governmental goals for the boys to attain. As reinac ting actual govern- mental practices it set a challenge for us to conquer. I met new faces, enjoyed their company and learned how to get along with them socially. Lieut. Governor Gosman spoke to us as Governor Aronson was away at a convention. We had demonstrations from the FBI and the State Highway patrol. We had a caravan style trip to the town of Virginia City where we learned some of the beginning of the government of our great state of Montana. I learned how our government is run and also had a wonderful trip. In closing I want to thank those people who made this trip possible. Manager Class Prophecy I, Iack Baringer, twenty years after sneaking through Rosebud High School, was riding on my favorite side car pullman. As I was making my annual summer trip through the state of Montana when all of a sudden the train stopped in the little burg of Carterville. There my transportation ended for Myron Saylor, the section hand, made me get off. We talked for awhile, then he told me to cross the river and ride on the other route. I-le was married to his old high school flame but we won't say who- After saying good bye to good old Stinky I took off to the West Coast- When I hit Washington I saw a familiar face. It was none other than Mary Elliott with her 14 kids fdon't take me wrongl only 8 of them were hers and the rest were young goats. When I finally managed to mooch a meal from her, she then helped me on to a flat car and it took me to California. When I arrived in California, I went up to an old eating place and ap- proached the back door to ask for some beans. When the cook turned a- round, it was none other than Georgia Coon, who was supporting her sixth husband, for the rest had committed suicide. Soon she kicked me out of the joint so I started down the road. Pretty soon an Army jeep came along and stopped. Who was it, but PFC Richard Olson. We talked for awhile and he said he thought his rank was climbing pretty fast. He was engaged to his 23rd girl but none had caught him yet. After talking Richard out of a buck I decided to get my hair cut. As I went into the only joint in California who would cut my hair for a buck ffor my hair was only eight inches long over the earsj who did I see but the barber, good old Marcie Lopez. She was the fastest hair cutter in the U.S. So by the time I got my hair cut, I had only found out that she had married twice but was now free. She had a movie contract but they couldn't find a role to fit her. After I got out of there I decided to head for Florida. This is my prediction for 20 years ahead and I hope it doesn't come true Class History On September, in the year of 1953, fifteen scared-looking kids entered the doors of Rosebud High School. We were initiated like all Freshmen usually are, two weeks after school starts. The Sophomores gave us a Party where we had a kangaroo court. Later in the year we gave them a return party. For the Homecoming game Janice Morton was candidate for the Freshman class and for the Carnival, Marcie Lopez was candidate. The class consisted of: Jon Perry-President, Richard Olson-Vice-President Mary Elliott-Secretary-Treasurer, Jack Baringer, Georgia Coon, Marcie Lopez, Myron Saylor, David Schroen, Roy Pabolo, Jimmy Quinlan, Bernadine Collins, Delphine Gandara, Myrna Russell, Buster Rogers and Janice Morton. During the year Bob Osborne joined our class but left the same year. Mr. Perry was our advisor. For our Sophomore year we initiated the coming Freshmen and gave them a party. In January we entered the new Rosebud High School building. The basketball team got to go to Red Lodge to the tournament. Mary Elliott was candidate for both Homecoming and the Carnival. At the Carnival she was crowned queen at midnight. Janice Morton, Bernadine Collins, Myrna Russell, Jimmy Quinlan, and Roy Pabolo all left us and we gained Martin Spurlock. The class then con- sisted ofg Jack Baringer-President, Martin Spurlock-Vice-President, Myron Saylor-Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Elliott-Reporter, Georgia Coon, David Schroen, Marcie Lopez, Buster Rogers, Jon Perry and Delphine Gandara. Mr. Perry was our advisor again. For our Junior year we were very unhappy to lose Martin Spurlock, Jon Perry, Buster Rogers, and Delphone Gandara. Frank Duthie, Maureen Brady and Mike Howard, a former grade student, joined our class for awhile. Our officers for this year were: Myron Saylor-President, Richard Olson- Vice-President, Marcie Lopez-Secretary-Treasurer, Mary Elliott-Reporter. Jack and Mary were our representatives for Student Council. Also Myron went to Boys' State and Marcie went to Girls' State. The queen candidates for this year were Maureen Brady for Homecoming and Georgia Coon for the Carnival. We gave our play in January which was called Longhairs And Crew- cuts. It was quite a success. We decorated the gym with blue and yellow crepe paper and a big wind- mill to carry out the theme Dutch Polenaize which the Seniors picked. Richard Olson was Prom King. On May 13, we gave the Junior-Senior banquet at the Custer Club in Miles City. The meal which consisted of T-Bone steaks was delicious. Mr. Schmidt was our class advisor. Our last year in high school only six students remained. They were: Mary Elliott President, Richard Olson-Vice-President, Marcie Lopez-Secretary-Treasurer, Georgia Coon-Reporter, Iack Baringer, and Myron Saylor. On March 30, we gave the play called The Hoodooded Coon . It was loads of fun to give and drew a large crowd. Iack, Mary and Myron were our Student Council representatives, and Marcie was candidate for both Homecoming and Carnival. We picked our theme for the Prom which is called Hawaiian Cruise with red and white to carry it out. The Iuniors did a swell job of decorating. It was held on May ll. Queen Georgia was crowned at midnight by King Dale. The Senior Class enjoyed themselves on Skip Day which was on April 25-28. We went to see the Black Hills in South Dakota. Mr. Kadrmas and Mr. Cunningham were our chaperones and we wish to thank them. g Myron, Jack and Marcie went to represent Rosebud High School at High School Week, held in Bozemen on May 2-4. The Iuniors gave the junior-Senior Banquet at the Met Cafe in Miles City, on May l2th. It was a delicious dinner and everyone enjoyed themselves. This year Baccalaureate was held on May 19, at 8:00 P.M. Our motto was Let the Ropes of Today Ring the Bells of Tomorrow. And the day that we worked so hard for, finally arrived, Graduation Day! Commencement exercises were held on May 22nd, Mr. Cunningham was our faithful advisor. And this closes our history of the Class of l957. Class Poem In the little town of Rosebud Where the Yellowstone wends its way, Six folks have come to the end of a road, It's Graduation Day! The road's much shorter, llooking backll Than it seemed from Freshman eyes When they washed the R four years ago Beneath the autumn skies. Another road's beginning, A longer and wider one, too, With many different branches, Depending on what they do . Mary's cheerleading is over, But Home Ec. has just begun, As she becomes a service wife Under the Washington sun. Richard'1l move much faster now Under a sergeant's commanding call. For he enters his country's service In California in the fall. Jack will be in Bozeman At college, a Freshman anew. He wants to be a jet pilot And study wildlife, too. Myron will also be with him On that registration day, A future Vo-Ag instructor Started on his way. Marcie, so small and quiet, Is college bound and away To Carroll College in Helena. We'll miss her more each day! Georgia, queen of our prom Seems undecided what to do. Work, marriage, school? But, She'll do O.K. too! So six more Seniors have departed On Graduation day. Especially to the hard working high school personnel in track, -- special congrat- ulations to the freshman track team, --to those who worked hard to make the 1956-57 football team one of the best, and lastly congratulations to the grades who starred in several track meets and who made the grade basketball team this year one of the finest. This poem which comes to mind rather often in the case of the lazy. The Lord gave you two ends to use, One to think with, one to sit on. It all depends on which you chose: Heads you win, tails you lose. Lastly, to the athletes fand Mr. Brownj who josh me about my bald headedness, I would like to remind you that when I was but a little boy fa few year agoj my mother always told me that when I grew up, I would come out on top---and she was right 1 S T Y 3312513 r-r-:am-IPHPQCIJJPW Mr. S Rosebud Rosebud Rosebud Rosebud Rosebud Rosebud Rosebud Rosebud Rosebud KNEELING: Myron Saylor, Manager, Clifford, Jerry, Robert, David,Westley, Denny, Assistant Manager STANDING chmidt, Coach: Dale, Jack, Ed, Richard, Ronnie, Fidels. Gideon Blair, aged 93, and a 'multimillionaire, has determined to marry his grand- child to the son of his old friend. If either of the young people refuse to marry they lose one million dollars. Tom mistakes an old maid for Rosebud and hires Tutt to im- personate himself. Rosebud profanes insanity trying to persuade Tutt not to marry her and scares him to death. , Misery Moon is the colored boy always broke and fighting with the cook. Lulu Pearl, the lunch counter girl, and Patrick, the ticket taker, have an interesting wedding. Paula Maleek added her touch of humor when she came in with her bomb! Pearl, Lenetta, Claira, and David came to the rescue and played some parts. Mr. Cunningham was play director. Miss Adventure Junior Class Play Miss Adventure was a comedy about a venturesome young girl, Io Carter-Carole Brady, who runs away from Miss Prim's-Pearl Butcher- boarding school disguised as a boy. Hungry and tired, she arrives at a farmhouse and lands a job as a hired man for a young farmer, Albert Brown-Dale Dunning. Her adventures with Rebecca-Connie Covarrubiasp the sour-faced cook- Diane Lentz- and young rube hired man-Henry Biery, to say nothing of the handsome young farmer, get her in all sorts of highly com-ic sit- uations. But before the curtain falls, her identity is discovered and she has promised to become Mrs. Brown. Richard Olson played the part of the henpecked janitor and Consie Covarrubias, Helen Carranco, Harriet Morton and Iudy Biery played College girls. Sharon Snodgrass played the part of Io Carter's mother. Mr. Kadrmas, Ir. advisor, directed the play. Floor---here I come. I now pronounce you man and wife Oh no--l'1l wake him, myself!
