Clear the roads clear the seas to exch Nlission isle' We want the right of vsay of every single mi e' ust don t block our path and just don t cramp our style And don t tie us down! It s clear to see That our missions not mere wishin but means working night and day. We will not be Fuddy-Duddy when we study when we sacrifice and pray. Our job is big, very' big, and we must get startedg Uur plans are all made and our projects chartedg From anything like laziness xve've long since parted. Don't tie us down! dovsn the aisle to form an honor guard alerted the tvso thousand people assembled in the Saint Louis Cathedral for the fourth annual mission ra y. The rally was opened with a colorful procession including church dignitaries and about fifty children. The people present were captivated by the little five and six-year-olds dressed in the religious habits of tht various orders teaching in the mission fields. Saints Peter and Paul Saint Francis Xavier the Little Flow er and Mary ucen of the Mis- sions were also portrayed by the children. Bishop Helmsing St. Louis director of the Society of the Propaga- tion of the Faith was the first to speak. He reported that there was an enrollment of 50 000 members last year an increase of 12 480 over the 1952 count and that the top parishes in the city are St. Margarets Cathedral Holy Rosary and Our Lady' of Lourdes. After giving high praise for the mission promoters Bishop Helmsing introduced the guest speaker Bishop Mark K. Carroll of Wichita Kansas. In his dynamic style Bishop Carroll recalled the memorable day' back in 1924 when on his 28th birthday he was gisen charge of the S. P. F. The late Cardinal Glennon said to him You must be a salesman for Christ, for you have something to sell that is tremendously worthwhile. W'orking with the wonderful priests and Catholic people of St. Louis, who are known all over the world for their love and loyalty' to the Church, has been the richest experience of my life ', continued the guest speaker. He then contrasted the first collection of S9,000 with this y'e.ir's collection of S600,000. 1Continued on Next Pagej I News REVIEW Page , 0 o 0 o s I Q 0 o s ' d I A , if , . . , in sl - ' , - s ., . .-. l-1 The Cadenced foot-fall of nearly 200 C.
