On December 26 Rosary alumm invaded the K of C gym to try to match baskets with the var sity Teamwork and conditioning paid off as the 53 Crusaders gave the alumm a hair raising de feat piling up 56 pomts agamst the yeterans 30 Newark St 1'ranc1s started the new year out right on January 3 with a thrllllng 47 43 verdlct oy er Rosary St Franels took a 12 point half time lead only to have the fighting Crusaders dwmdle lt down to a 39 35 third perlod score The 1Newark quintet kept tlns slim lead and found it substantial enough to wipe out the Crusaders hopes for a fifth yxctory Tony Sforya and Bob Franks scored 18 and 12 respectively for the St Francis five Captain John 1Noll led the Crusaders with 17 After the Newark heartbreaker the Crusaders were determmed to get their fifth w1n as they em barked upon the peaceful town of Kenton Rosarv led all through the game untll Vlfgll Dearoif and Company lowered the boom wlth a 48 40 wln over the Crusaders Dearoff tallied 18 points to Ted Luke s 17 This loss brought Rosary s seasonal record to the five hundred mark with five wins and five defeats The next foe for the Crusaders was Columbus St Mary s Earlier m the season Rosary bom barded the Ramblers 52 33 but their second meetmg was a different story Thanks to a blg second quarter ln which Bill Stewart dumped 13 of hls 21 points the Ramblers managed to eke out art s scormg and big John McGraw s rebounding the Ramblers managed to give Rosary their sixth loss in ten starts John Noll and Ted Luke were the blg guns for Rosary with 14 and 12 tallles respectively f rhson reaches high into the air on a rebound against St Wlary s Rosary ended with the better end of the hall game a 52 33 victory a london player The game ended a victory for Rosary 56 44 The next contest found Rosary matched agamst St Charles The Carollans won the game by a 58 50 score but ln this game the numbers didn t mean a thing It took every ounce of Coach Jack well planned attack by Rosary Co captam Or lando Icabonl was the blg gun for St Charles hitting for 25 polnts Ted Luke dusted the nets for 16 markers With a weeks rest the Crusaders came lnto contact wlth Marlon St Mary s the team that scorched Rosary s hopes of winning the CCL last year Mike Anderson of the Saints slnged the nets for 30 t3lllCS but lt wasn t enough to hold the rampagmg Rosarlans John Noll led the way for the Crusaders Wltll 16 points followed closely behmd by Roger Gibson with 14 Rosary defeated the 52 champs by a 63 to 49 score At their next game the Crusaders were faced with the league leaders Springfield Central Cath olle Rosary s seasonal record did not put the Ccntral Catholic lads ln too confident a mood 'lraxllng by 15 points at halftime the Crusaders gave Sprlngfield quite a scare and a run for their money as Central Catholic managed to squtak through a 65 58 vlctory lndlvldual scormg honors went the other way however as Rosary center Ted Luke dumped in seyen field goals and 6 charity throws for 20 pomts The next day Rosary recorded IIS sixth vletory by a 58 51 ylctory over their eastslde rly al Acad emy Playing in usual form were captam John Noll and Ted Luke as they bombarded the nets for 18 and 23 respectively Thls scormg spree by 1 uke was the highest of the current season 5, ' I . . - . . - .. . .
