This ucdrb bs ' 'There are no virtues peculiar to one or the other sex . Obedience , submission, subordina- tion, and patient suffer- ing are not demanded ex- clusively of women ; nor are courage, self-reli- ance, wisdom, and forti- tude the monopoly of men. ' 1 Sister Albertus Mag- nus McGrath Women and the Church Sister Albertus Magnus wrote truth about the virtues , and there is no better example of those virtues than Sister A.M. herself . Her wisdom , moral strength , and courage are attested by her colleagues and by her stu- dents. However, even to a stranger, her magnitude is evidenced with a glance at her life story; her works are her memorial. Dedicated to education , Sister Albertus Magnus McGrath graduated from Rosary and pursued her M . A . and Ph . D . in History at the University of Wisconsin . Her unceasing appetite for knowledge was fed by post- doctoral work at Harvard, Columbia, and the Univer- sity of Fribourg in Switzerland, plus a year at Yale Di- vinity School . Wisdom from knowledge radiated from Sister A.M. Her poetry appeared in various antholo- gies, as her critical writings graced many magazines and reviews. Sister Albertus Magnus was a highly respected propo- nent of the women's movement. Her views, carried in national newspapers, ardently opposed the inferior po- sition allotted women in the Church , as did her widely read book, ' 'What a Modern Catholic Believes About Women . 1 '
