(FA BIAJV BA CHRA CH PHO T 0) 2 dp Let the word go forth, from this time J5 and place, to friend and foe alike, that jjr the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans. . . With tnese words, John Kennedy captured America's imagination on his Inauguration day. As freshmen, we rushed J from semester examinations to crowd around the only avail- M able television set, and we watched our vigorous young M President with pride, for he was our President. He had been I ours since the beginning of the campaign; we had clustered I around the same television set to watch the Kennedy-Nixon I debates and to wait eagerly for the election returns. We felt ourselves part of that new generation of which he spoke so eloquently. November of our senior year found us gathered once again around a television set, as numbed as was the rest of the world by John Kennedy's sudden and shocking death. Too abrupdy, the Kennedy years have ended; the years of his new generation are only beginning. The torch has indeed been passed to us - and now we must lift that torch high and carry it proudly. With this in mind, and because the events of his presidency are inextricably bound up with our memories of our college years, we dedicate this book to the memory of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. M.J.C.
