%monf Book Jiiua Jmit, SIUmU IN REMEMBRANCE Mother Mary Samuel Coughlin was the Mother Gen- eral of the Sinsinawa Dominicans from 1910 to 1949. During her term of office, Saint Clara College, renamed Rosary College, was transferred from Sinsinawa to River Forest. Mother Samuel is mainly responsible for the training of the faculty, the high intellectual standards, and the architectural beauty of the college. This extra- ordinary woman died on October 17, 1959, but her name and her memory will be permanently honored in the new residence hall, the Mother Mary Samuel Cough- lin Memorial Hall. 2 The glory of Greece is our heritage. The Golden Age of Pericles exemplified all that was beautiful and excellent. These qualities are not lost but are mirrored in our own modern education: architecture, philosophy, drama, government, athletics and the very art of teaching. The ideal of the Greek was to educate the whole man. Rosary College provides a modern counterpart: the liberal education. The close parallel between these ideals is obvious. The following pages are intended to examine more fully this rapport between the Golden Age and the student life at Rosary College. 3 Administration mmmm Those are educated who have seen the beautiful and just and good in their truth.
