Not pictured: Bernadette Ward, co-editor of The Eagle and first semester president of Writers' Club. To the student interested in creative writing. Writers' Club is a halcyon Isle. FHere are persons like herself, interested in iambic pentameter feet, how to sell a short story, or the merit of Wllla Gather's latest novel. And when she longs for the thrill of seeing the children of her own mind set down in print, there is Rosary's magazine. The Eagle, to the rescue. Writers' Club and The Eagle were founded to encourage literary activity among the students and to promote appreciation of fine writing. The meetings of Writers' Club are concerned chiefly with the study and constructive criticism of original student compositions, while the pages of The Eagle mirror the best of these compositions In Its three annual issues. As Its special activities for the year, Writers' Club sponsored its annual Short Story Contest in the spring and participated in a meeting with Theotokeion devoted to the life and work of Gerard Manley Hopkins. 29
