As most freshman do, we worked so hard that yearthat nothing unusual happened except we gained in knowledge and stature, thirty-four of us. We chose class sweaters of cardinal and gray. At the end of the year we lost four of our class members. Our sophomore class, thirty in number, underthe sponsorship of Mr. Ellis was delightful experience. Again we had no outstanding experiences except those adventures into learning. We did, however, initiate the freshman and had a return party given by them. We were also the sponsors of the Blue Room Ball. Gwelda MacDermid, Everett Peterson, and .Terry Clutter joined our class this year. In September 1947, the school year saw Mr. Ellis again our supervisor with twenty-eight students and a big year ahead. Our .Tunior Play, Growing Pains , was a huge success and the Junior Prom with the theme April Showers was a memorable occasion. We purchased our class rings during this year. We got wind of the Senior Sneak, followed them around like blood hounds, had breakfast at the White Goose in Spokane, heard Clyde and Slim on KXLY, and came home in time for school, and with all our sleepiness found that we were being called upon by the county superintendent, OOh! This year underthe genialand pleasant guidance oflVlr. Sablin we look forward to the Homecoming Dance, Senior Play, Junior-Senior Banquet and last but not least the senior sneak. As we file out, twenty eight down the halls of old Rosalia Hi it is with regret that we leave the rooms where we have been sheltered, taught, heckled, lwe think, and directed by our teachers. We face the future with the warm courage that we will all be useful citizens of the U. S. A. and will be proud of the fact that we were members of the graduating class of 1949. SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Just beyond the horizon of vision, on the Sea of Tomorrow, you will find the ship, Future . Here, as I entered the Captain's cabin on this boat I found Capt. BOB EASTON writing the day's entry in the Ship's Log. The date was June 3, 1959. As I peered over Bob's shoulderthere came a knock on the door, it was the Future's First Mate, JUNIOR KJACK. He entered and announced that the Chef, LARRY MCBRIDE, and the head waiter, JOEL PORTER, were having a row and causing quite a disturbance in front of the passengers. It seems that Joel, who still had an eye for pretty girls, had hired THEORA MAURER and ELSIE JEAN PARKER as hostesses for the dinning room and the rest of the ship as well. Lanry, an old time woman hater, said they didn't need any women at all even if they were old classmates. Besides, that stingy Company Bursar, WILLA MAE BOOZER, wouldn't allow them enough money for extra help, he said. She was that way even as Senior Class Treasurer. After the tempermental chef was calmed down and had gone back to his sanctuary, the ship's kitchen, I looked in on the scene in the dinning room and saw there many famous faces, many of them Forty-niners believe it or not. I found there Senator BETTY BROWN, the second Clare Booth Luce, discussing politics with that quiet fahemj commentator of Station W.A.I. World Airways Inc., ARNOLD DICKINSON. Was that Arnold doing all that shouting? At another table I saw Madam GWELDA MACDERMID with her world-renouned group of chorus girls. In her groupl recognized EVELYN HORLACHER and ELLEN MAURER who have a wonderful future ahead of them in the world of dancing and who are happy under gracious Gwelda. Over in one corner of the dinning room we saw the still popular ladies, ELEANORHOFMANN and GEORGIA ANN HOLLING. Both have reached stardom. Eleanor, always the Queen of Hearts is in the movies and plays opposite GERALD GELHAUS, the great singing cowboy. Georgia, who found her talent in the senior play is really happy on the stage in New York. They were discussing the latest news of some of the other members of the class of '49. Eleanor spoke of her visit with DONNA BLACKMAN JOHNSON. She'is now happily settled down on a farm. Donna told her lots of news. Senior Class Prophecy fcont.l BARBARA ROBERTS had married a missionary and was on a slow boat to China when last heard from. HELEN HAMES has been Wye red down O. K. but that doesn't mean that she has stopped making the most out of life. EVERETT PETERSON had just won the Heavy-weight Box- ing Championship of the World. NORMAN LUPER, salesman super, has worked up in the ranks of the biggest advertising firm in the United States. Norman is now president and he encourages young people to be- gin their careers in high school like he did. VAUGHN MURPHY, now Dr. Murphy has solved all the problems of the human mind. His fame as a psychiatrist has spread throughout the world. JERRY CLUTTER had just returned to his home in Thorton from a diplomatic mission to Tibet. .Terry was sent as an offical representative of our government. DICK HENSEN and WAYNE HALL have both become farmers of the most modern type and use all the latest methods. These two men now own most of Whitman County. Naturally they do all their business through the great financier, .TAMES MILNE. After this enlightening conversation was over, I wandered into the lounge thinking that there was news of someone that I hadn't heard as yet. The re in the lounge on the television screne I saw one whomIhadn't heard about: it was ELMER JESKE being a most charming Master of Ceremonies on the new version of Meet the Missus . For laughs he often puts on a creation by the famous hat designer his twin sister, ELSIE JESKE, who has become even more famous than Lili Dache. I hope that when I return to the ship Future in 1969 I shall see and hear even better news of all the Forty-niners . Yours, The C rystal Gazer P.S. I justrreceived a flash that our former advisor and science teacher, Mr. Sahlin, has rid the pupils of R.H.S. of all their troubles by blowing up the science lab with an experiment. ELS! The next at- traction was the Prom given in April in honor of the Seniors. The theme was In An Old Dutch Garden . The gym was appropriately decorated for the occasion. We chased the Seniors on their tradit- ional sneak. All in all the year was a very exciting one for the members of our class. In spite of foul weather they were always there to back our teams. Congratulations on a job well done, girls. 4. 4 i'f YV' C N F' 5 I J ,will nfl! The line in particular was thought to be potentially one of the best in the league. This did not prove to be the case, however, for the team in general did not seem to be able to get the drive that is required to win games. However, they did turn in one very good showing in that they beat the strong Colfax team. This was the first time in 18 years that Colfax had been defeated by Rosalia. This was one of the big up-sets of the season and the Rosalia eleven won much acclaim for this victory. Following is a resume of the scores of the '48 season. Rosalia Rosalia Rosalia Rosalia Rosalia Rosalia St. John 32. Palous 13 Tekoa 7 Colfax 13 Colton Z4 LaC rosse Z4 Ill' lu. 1 Bill Palme r-Manage r The outlook for next year's team is somewhat better, however. Although many of this year's lettermen were seniors and will not be here next year the re are many promising prospects that should be very good. The re has also been some talk of chang- ing over to an eight man team, which many feel would give us a better chance since the number of good prospects for our football team are rather limited. The manager of a team is one of the deciding factors of the team. A good manager is a very important factor in the success of a team. His job is hard and dirty and only rarely does he receive any of the praise he deserves. The entire team thanks Bill and hopes they we re not too hard on him. rf! .RH uf, 1 . r 'fx 'V' me V , 'I. J -A A Basketball Rosalia had a very successful season in basketball considering the fact that we lost four lettermen from the squad, three of these being on the first five last season. Although hampered byblocked roads because of snow, the squad finally succeeded in getting all the games played except one which was forfeited by Palouse. Following is a resume of the scores of the Eastern division league: Rosalia 35 Palouse 26 Rosalia 45 Steptoe Z9 Rosalia 39 Garfield 24 Rosalia 2.9 Steptoe 30 Rosalia 29 Tekoa 34 Rosalia Z5 Tekoa 43 Rosalia 37 Oakesdale Z3 Rosalia 41 Garfield Z9 Rosalia 32 Oakesdale 15 This enabled the team to play in the Whitman county Tourney which was held in the new gymnasium at Oakesdale which was justerected this year. The Rosalia Squad sparked to two wins and one loss which placed Rosalia in a tied position with St. John for 3rd place. Scores of the game in which Rosalia participated at the county tourney were: Rosalia 33 LaCrosse 30 Rosalia Z3 Pine City 33 Rosalia 44 Ste ptoe 31 Winning third place in Whitman County enabled the squad to travel to the South Eastern District Tournament which was held at Colfax. This was the first time in the history of Basketball at Rosalia, that they were entered in the Southeastern District Tourney. Rosalia won their first game over Dayton with a score of 33 to 31, but lost remaining games with Endicott and Asotin with the scores of Z1 to 46 and Z9 to 30 re- spectively which put them out of the Tournament. .Q 1 ..-1 7, .5,, i Q' Z! 3 Hs , 4 ,. The motto, Toward New Horizons was im- pressed upon the member's minds by an excellent lecture. The girls have served several banquets, gave our Home Economics Dept. several valuable and valued contributions. Degrees were conferred on several girls. A group went to Spokane to the sub-regional and on April ZZnd went to Ellensburg to our state convention. We elected several chapter mothers to office. They are: Mrs. Paul I-Ielmer, Mrs. George Engel, Mrs. A. Fuhriman, Mrs. Wes Williams, Mrs. James Abel, and Mrs. W. L. Townsend.
