Scmirs ails: fa, ,w CLASS PROPHECY Let us look into the future of the class of 1947 with the help of Madame Pauline Hodgson and her mystic ball. Playboy Maurice Allert and his mile-long car. The fog has cleared and we see a drill field at Vassar where Mary Boozer is putting her debut- antes through the mill. Poor kids ! We are now fondly greeted at the happy home of Mrs. Lyle West, the former Gerry McBride. As we bid her goodby a fog of dust settles over us. It is just LaVerne Hodgen and one of his many tractors, as he has just taken over the countryfside as his farm. The magic ball is jarred by the shock of an explosion from one of Joanne Harvey and Ina Van Brunt's new experiments. As chief chemists at DuPont's almost any' thing is likely to occur. As the ball comes to rest we see the plains of Texas filled with john Shilliam's purefbred Herefords. We now see the new operator of Rosalia's beauty salon. We are surprised to find that she is our old school mate, Melva Adams and seems to have made quite a reputa- tion for herself. Also still in Rosalia is Ernie Hall-Rosalia's new Commissioner of Law. We now see the latest U. N. Conference and distinguished United States delegate Bob Baird has the floor. And as the telephone rings we hear the voice with a smile Lee Ilah Fuhriman, who now knows languages of twenty countries. But we must move on to Carnegie Hall where we see Americas only woman conductress make her debut. She is none other than Kathleen Dowling. As the strains of Beethoven fade into Russian folk songs we notice we are in farfoif Russia. Whom do we see there? None other than Eunice Gibson who has just completed a book on the life of the Eskimo and has now accepted a position as head bookkeeper for Helmer Hardware. We now have one member left, Dolores Roth who is happy just being Mrs. Andy Sutton. ' CLASS HISTORY FRESHEN A On September 20, 1943 seventeen rather frightened, green freshmen entered R. H. S. from Rosalia, Thornton, and a few outside grade schools, full of enthusiasm and eager to show the rest of the high school what we could offer as useful citizens. By the end of the first six weeks we had been initiated by the sophomores as was customary. During the year Howard Spurgeon dropped from school and Ina Van Brunt entered from Rockford. SOPHOMORES This year we became a group of worldlyfwise sophomores more experienced in the ways of high school life. The highlight of the year was initiating of the freshmen ac- cording to the memories of Freshman initiatcn of the year before and the all hgh party given in their honor. During the year Mary Anne Trainer moved to Spokane. JUNIORS g This year we entered school as juniors and proud upperclassmen who were to pre' sent in November the class play Aunt Susie Shoots the Works . ln April we honored the Seniors at the junior Prom in the Celestial Gardens. The gym was very colorful with its various pastel shades and revolving center light. Cur third year of High School convinced us we did not know everything. . , SENIORS n We are now Seniors, so called of the school, and convinced that by the time one has reached his Senior year there is more knowledge than ever yet to be consumed. Dick Henson left the class to enter the srvice as a U. S. Marine. In December the Homecoming Dance was given in honcr of the Alumni. On june 3, 1947 the 16 mem' hers of the graduating class will pass through the portals of Rosalia High School each to assume his assigned task in life, just as eager and enthusiastic to show the world what we have to offer as we were that day we entered as Freshmen. aff 1 ' ,I XX, 5,6-Xi' I ,-Q! if x x lfww X REQ 2 , . Marian Widman, Lois Williams and Georgia Hollingwere elected. These girls added many new yells and created much pep and enthusiasm at our games. I .V The Pep Club together with the Auxiliary Pep Club organized a drill team to per- form at the Basketball Round Robin . It was very much out of the ordinary in dem onstrating what a good drill team would not do. Led by Joanne Harvey, members were Helen Haines, Helen Hall, Ina Van Brunt, Mary Boozer, Lee Ilah Fuhriman, Wi-lla Mae Boozer, Eunice Gibson and Eleanor Hofmann. A I GIRL'S LEAGUE PRESIDENT: Gerry McBride VICE PRESIDENT: Willa Mae Boozer SECRETARY: Helen Wyrick I ADVISERS: Miss Klein, Miss Gardner, Mrs. Marsh The highlight of the year was the Sadie Hawkins Day Dance given on November 8th. The girls asked their dates and presented them with vegetable corsages. Marian Widman, Kathleen Dowling, Gerry McBride and Margaret Easton ac- companied by Miss Klein were chosen to represent Rcsalia at the Whitman County Convention of the Girl's League held at Colfax. They made a very favorable showing for Rosalia and brought back an interesting account of the meeting. y CARNIVAL On November 15, 1946, Rosalia High School held its annual carnival. It was termed by everyone as a great success due on the most part to Mr. Brown, who as' sumed responsibilities for the undertaking. As in the past a Carnival Queen was elected by penny votes. This year, a Hobo King in addition to the queen was elected. Kathleen Dowling and Rolly Porter were elected to fulfill these regal positions. The runnersfup were Evelyn Horlacher, Jessie Hodgen and Winnie MacDcrmid for queen, Bob Schmidt, Melvin Hofman and Laverne Hodgen for hobo king. The various booths were run by the classes instead of organizations. All booths were cleverly decorated, but the one displaying the R. C. A. radio, which was raffled by dollar tickets to Mrs. Ben Bell, was chosen by the judges as the best decorated. Other booths included the ever-popular bingo, fortune telling, refreshment stand, coin toss, fish pond, mouse game, and dart game. A main attraction was the baseball throw which was run by the seniors. A huge tub of water was put out on the floor. The Letter' man Club's initiates for this year were all required to come dressed in ladies' swimming suits and each took his turn sitting on a plank suspended over the tub. Each time as a customer hit the center of the baseball board the plank was released and the initiate got a much unappreciatcd bath. A booth was also put up for people to vote for the hobo king and queen. It was run by the juniors. A short program was presented by the music department under Mr. Ellis' direction. A clown band composed of members of the regular band dressed in clown suits and other hick costumes played a few novelty numbers. They were followed by the high school trio. A good time was had by all, though we came home with empty pockets. P f JUNIOR PROM March 22nd, the Junior Prom was held honoring the Seniors of 1947. The theme rf the Prom was BuhHe Ball' and the decorations were gayly colored balloons, crepe paper and huhhle dancers. Confetti was sold and everyone enjoyed throwing it around, The Prom was a great success and everyone had a gala evening. la if , .F f ik 5 villas, HOME COMING DANCE December 28th Larry Stanley's Music Masters packed up their instruments and made a flying trip to Rosalia for the Annual Homecoming Dance which was presented in honor of the alumni by the seniors. The red and white decorations and a large re' volving light made a rainbow of colors dance on the floor. Returned service men made up a large part of the alumni who attended. From 9:30 to 12:30 the couples had a grand time dancing and then wended their way home with memories of another de- lightful Homecoming Dance. Z xxx J, ffvl - 6' , if-iQ gy - Nfl! When a scheming mother, Mrs. Dorset, tries to marry one of her twin daughters, Amy, to the son of her departed dearest friend. Amy was terrif fied when Ward rushed in and announced they were to be married at once in order to hold a position offered by his uncle in Hawaii. Amy had planned the step for fear she did not love him and thought the breaking of the mirror that morning was a bad OXIICD. Herfriend Bea encouraged her fears when she interpreted a dream. Amy left the church only to encounter her twin sister, who had just returned from a trip abroad. Unhappy over leaving a disappointed lover, Fay impersonates Amy and finally marries Ward.
