Welton Stephenson wills his court- 1949 Class Prophecy Preview of an Amazing Future The consideration of future events is always an interesting subject To thmk about the career possibilities of my fellow classmen is still more interesting because it involves each one of us personally In look mg 1nto a crystal ball we bring out some rare and unexpected forecasts about what the members of the class will be doing in any given number of years now I am nevertheless pleased with the assignment of present ing the prophecy for the Class of 1949 It is our good fortune to leave high school at a time when the world seems to be seething with energy enthusiasm imagination and invention Our good fortune is still greater because we are graduating in at1me of peace and prosperity Whether it is the same or different to what has been in the past it 1S a new world to us Graduationfrom high school 1S ahorizon from which we look forward into a future which seems like forever Our years in high school have been like about as many footprints in the sands of time P1ne trees in the forests are ringed with years which canbe counted into the hundreds There are mountains of granite which measure eons of time yet on this day of our graduation time stands still Around us there are many evidences of great changes going on For years we have been hearing that television was something in the future It has now become a reality which has managed to increase wages streamlme production and dis tr1but1on and put the total results of every enterprise within reach of the masses of people all along the line Americans are motivated by a personal driving power which comes from this system of living We are free to choose our own careers in life and are assured we will be rewarded in proportion to how well we work Only a few of the members of our graduating class have come to definite conclusions about what they would like to do in life All can name things they would enjoy doing David thinks he would enjoy going to Simmons and becoming adoctor Winnie Sue and Wanda want to go to business school while Jackie and Margie are choosing a home life career Welton wants to become a mechanic wh1le M L plans to become an undertaker Keith Smith will enter Texas Tech this fall 1- rank and Doy are undecided yet as towhat they want to do Joyce and Tommye Ann want to go to business school Dickey plans to go to college but does not know what type Betty wants to work awhile in an office Levetta will can fruits and vegetables and put into practice more of her homemaking Donald plans to go to Texas Tech Billy Ray is not fully decided yet but will exther go to business school or help his father on the farm I believe the members of the graduating class are capable of doing largely what they plan to do and that this is true of the many classes graduating from high school all over our country at this time We live in a highly competitive system of mass production methods JUNIORS Nancy Armstrong Joe Wayne Burks Dorothy Calloway Doyle Champ1on Nancy Co111ns .T B Corner Marv1n Drake Gertrude Evans Don Hammock B111y Irw1n L A .Tohnson Ira Iephcott I f . . - 4 6 ' ' N . . . f Q . 3 b ,ng A .fit .
