joofgaf The team was young So young 1n fact that half of the varslty f1rst strlng started the Frosh Soph games These Frosh Soph by the way went undefeated ln the1r f1ve game schedule W1th such a youthful organ1za t1on we can easlly become Dodger fans and keep yelllng walt t1ll next year But even here there may be trouble ahead for a team that gets the loslng hablt leaves 1tself a very tough road to hoe On the other hand a team that comes off a losmg season flghtmg mad and glVGS 1ts best at all tlmes IS one of the greatest th1ngs that can happen ln sports Athletlcs are supposed to be fun to glve you enjovment to offer you an opportunlty to unleash all your lnner tenslons but the only way to have th1s fun 1n athlet1cs IS to know w1th1n yourself that you ve glven your best at all tlmes Thls football team of ours was young as we mentxoned before and by 1ts own mlstakes caused by 1nexper1ence gave away 75 of the touch downs scored agamst xt Yet at tlmes we saw two years qulcklv pass and that same lnexperlenced bunch of boys look llke senlors Wlth three and 97 vard dr1ve near the end of the flrst half at Corpus Chr1st1 Thls should be a good club but they w1ll wlthout a doubt mlss the leadershlp of the senlors on thls years team Andy Shlmp a standout ln a black season w1ll be severely mlssed at h1s old halfback sloft Well also m1ss Frank W1they 1n the l1ne W1they along wlth Shlmp were th1S years co captalns and they d1d a great Job keeplng the morale up on a team whlch went through such a dxsastrous year Other senlors on th1s squad were D1ck Strauch James Them Arme Doctor Bob McCrea Brlan Belva Along w1th the above mentloned scn1ors we would l1ke to congratu late Shlmp once agaln on h1s belng elected most valuable back Joe Greco one of the sophomore standouts was voted the most valuable l1neman Other most valuable awards often pass by the men who deserve them most the coaches We congratulate Head Coach Major Carl Larson for h1S handllng of such a young team and also h1s flne ass1stant Captaln James Shaughnessy We W1Sh thcm only the best of luck ln brlngmg thls team to a f1ne edge for next year s season Page Seventy 1 ' 7 ' ' ' 1 A 1 . . . ,, . . 77 1 ' ' 1 Cl ' ' 77 ' . , . . Here follows a brlef synopsls of each of the scheduled seven games RMA vs Alexis Alevcls 32 RM A 6 The Rough Rlders flrst game was played w1th Alexls At the f1rst half the Cadets mamtamed an even 6 6 marg1n but durmg the second half the R1ders were overpowered by the fme teamwork of the Alex1s team Jon Wald was the only scorer 1n the game FECSIVIDQ a great pass from Bob Seymour and dr1v1ng for a 55 yard touchdown R M A vs Durant R M A .32 Durant 12 Thls game w the tnst w1n of the season for the Cadets The Rough R1dGfS seemed to have new speed and pulled ahead of thelr opponents throughout the game At the half our team was ahead by SIX gomts and as the game ended we had made a 20 po1nt lead Outstandmg COl'ltFlbLlt1OI'lS were made by Andy Sh1mp and M1ke Irw1n Sh1mp makmg .3 of the touchdowns and Irw1n makmg two R M A vs Stronghurst Stronghurst 51 RMA 6 From the openmg klckoff of th1s game the cadets seemed to be ln a daze by the overwhelmmg power of the Stronghurst G1ants At the hall we found ourselves behmd by a 21 po1nt margm The Glants contmueu galnlng and took the game Jon Wald was the l1ght 1n the dark for the Rough R1ders makmg the only touchdown for our team wlth three mm utes left 1n the game RMA vs Corpus Chrlstl Corpus Chrlstx 32 RMA 6 Th1s game was one of the most poorly played games 1n thc Roosevelt seemed to pull out of our slump RM A vs Aledo Aledo 41 R M A 7 As we all know Aledo had a xery f1ne team w1th many outstandmg, players who had been Wlth the team fox a long perlod of t1me Our game w1th them was cons1dered very good 1n the eyes of many people mclud mg the coachmg staff of R M A We got off to a rather slow start and never really d1d seem to speed up At the half the scoreboard read 21 O Paul May made the only touchdown for Roosevelt rn the second half wlth a spectac ular 65 yard run RMA vs Prophetstown fllomecommgj Prophetstown 47 R M A 14 A homecommg game to any team 15 very hard to lose The Cadets really battled to try to XJ11'1 th1s one but lt seemed that they ust d1dn t have the experlence that IS so vltally needed to make a w1nn1ng team The Cadets were losmg at the half by the score of 21 7 Durmg this perlod there were cons1derable fouls from the opposmg team In the second half the Cadets scored one touchdown to the opponents four RMA vs Gladstone Oquawka G O 13 RMA 6 Th1s was our last game of the season and as you can see by the score lt d1d not end very well for us In the flrst half the C O team had a 13 po1nt lead In the second quarter Paul May made a touchdown that seemed to g1V9 the Cadets new sp1r1t W1th 13 seconds left IH the game Joe Greco mtercepted a pass but lt was too late for the Cadets to score the v1tal pomts needed to w1n Page Seventy one A . , ss V . - I . - - - . 7 .
