Seated left to right are Dick Gibson, Paul Van- Sickle, Nancy Cook, Rosemarie Hobart, Theresa Rotello, and Dotty Cassioppi. 66 SCHOOL ACTIVITIES Christmas in Many Lands was the theme of this year's Christmas play here at Roosevelt. Each different scene told a story of how Christmas is celebrated in lands such as Germany, England, France, and the U. S. The above picture shows CI scene from Spain. The girls are, from left to right, Patty Terranovcx, Linda Zitzke, Marilynne Gersten, Lucy Stauffer, Iudy Becken- baugh, Ianie Behr, Roberta Karlin, and Becky Hall. Santa Claus was played by Dennis Hunt. On the night of February 11th Roose- velt held its first Family Frolic of this year. Movies, swimming, dancing, and basketball in the gym were some of the activities offered. The busiest places of all were the refreshment stands shown cxbove. 67 SCHOOL ACTIVITIES Mr. Wibom explains the workings ot a metal lathe in machine shop to his class. The boys in this class make metal hammers, screwdrivers and paperweights among other things. They learn to use machines and work with metal as it is done in modern igctories. She was chosen from twelve candidates, four from each grade, by the students. Io Mary Lee, Iudy Beckenbaugh, and Cindy Prentice were chosen as the representative from their grades. This year's 9A play was a smash hit. It was Little Women by Sara Spencer, and based on the book by the same name. We enjoyed the play a lot and hope that next year Mr. Waite's selection will be as successful. 71 Throughout the year the Masque Club has been busy planning dramatic activities for as- semblies, plays and extracurricular presenta- tions. It is an intermediate band between the beginning and the 9th grade Concert Band. It played for an assembly on Feb- ruary 19th and in the Spring Concert. The members of the 7th grade band for the most part have not played any musical instrument before enrolling in the organization. Early in the fall the sounds coming from Room 95 can only be classed as unorganized noise. By Christmas, however, the band is able to play a few marches and some Christmas Carols. When Spring Concert time arrives the 7th grade band has been trans- formed from a class into an organization playing easy overtures and selections. 78 The 8th grade orchestra meets for full orchestral rehearsal twice weekly. They combine the other three ddys in sectionols under much the same plan as their first year. Many of these students own their own instruments and study privately. It is interesting to note the advancement in reading ability and repertoire over the year. The 7th grade orchestra meets for one full rehearsal weekly. The other four days are spent in sec- tionals, Mr. Hall directing the winds and percussion, Miss Green the strings. Many of this group are studying piano or cm instrument privately. Nearly all members of the class practice their instrument outside of school. 79 MUSIC 80 TEDDY'S TRILLERS Teddy's Trillers, cm extra curricular singing organization, meets every Fri- day morning. Alden Swanson readies himself to crash through Bill Purdy and Bill Norberq during football practice behind West High last fall. This type of drill develops CI strong, pow- erful line needed for a good football team. Four fellows who put much punch into our hard, charging backfield run through some signals. This helps to develop smooth working plays. They are, from left to right: Bill Peila, right halfback, Dick Dayhoff, quarterback, Tom Blake, quarterback and full- back, and Richard Peterd, right halfback. 83 SPORTS e BASKETBALL OUR BASKETBALL TEAM This year's basketball team was fairly successful, winning almost half of their games. Scrm turned in many fine performances at his regular guard spot along with Tom Blake. Sam, 0 leader in many activities as well as class president, helped to boost our team to CI five game winning streak, defeating Harlem, Beloit, Free- port, West B, and East B. LG Vern Sherer's 15 points against the East Soph. B team was a great help in 0 game Roosevelt won 43 to 40.
