This is a part of the work in eighth grade mathematics. Learning how to care for a baby is a part of the work in home arts, as Carol Bunyan, Patsy Carter, Iocm Norberg, Diane Prick, Mary Lou Miller and Mar- icm Mensenkamp have found out. MUSIC HATH CHARMS ORCHESTRA Before presenting their spring concert the orchestra appeared in assemblies and on various other occasions. It was under the direction of Miss Emmet Green. BASKETBALL Coach Harry Nutting's basketball team lost only two Junior High games this year. Both were to Lincoln. In the first game the overtime period allowed Lincoln boys to get a basket. When Lincoln came to Roosevelt the Roosevelt boys were outpointed. This year Coach Harry Nutting's swimmers got off to CI good start by defeat- ing the Lincoln tankmen, 44 to 22. In the first meet Roosevelt took six first places. We lost to Washington by a very few points. The second meet With Lincoln was won by a narrow margin. 32 SWIMMING Dave Pennock is ready for a dive. This is a glimpse of a meet with Lin- coln. John Nielsen and Mike Brand are ready for a racing dive. GIRLS' SPORTS G.A.A. meetings were held once each month for eighth and ninth grade girls. The ninth grade officers were Ianice O'Connell, president; Pat Naill. vice-president; Rayanne Moore, secretary; Le Ora Walker, treasurer. Eighth grade officers were Ruth Perkins, president; Kathryn Kreuter, vice- president; Jean Schoonrnaker, secretary; Sally Small, treasurer. Points were given for after school sports and the passing of skilled tests. The truth and consequences program was CI popular entertainment. Reporters try to bring to the students news about their classmates, teachers, and school. So putting the phrase a little differently, As long as there is a Roosevelt school and a news staff, Ill there'll always be an interesting 'Teddy's News. The work of the club was principally in doing the Art work for the yearbook such as the cover design. The director was Miss Merle Crandall. SERVING OTHERS JUNIOR RED CROSS The I. R. C. members were as follows: Alberta Sheldon, Barbara Thomas, Janet Price, Margaret Dunlap, Marilyn Seinwill, Eileen Hakalcx, Io Rene Bond, Betty Waters, Sharon Baker, Betty Thompson, Elizabeth Johnson, Beverly Gav- iqan, Beverly Friedberq, Audrey Murray, Patricia Elstad. The I. R. C. collected articles for soldiers and for polio patients. They also made articles such as scrap books, and etc. For the soldiers they collected clothes hangers, and lights and ornaments for their Christmas trees. The I. R. C. adviser was Mrs. Andress, the physical education teacher. TRAFFIC CLUB Standing: Mr. Arthur Larson, Gordon Carlson, Earl Sandy, Lyman Totten, Robert Vernon, Albert Chambers. Seated: Fred Bresette, Carl Anderson, Keith Cordell. The Traffic Club, one of the oldest and most important clubs of the school, is under the direction of Mr. Larson. It has charge of traffic in the halls and outside. It also runs the traffic court for offenders. In all of its years of service there have been no serious accidents. Mr. Lloyd Wood was sponsor of the club. The members of the Aviation Clubs were interested in airplane discussions, reviews of magazine articles on aeronautics, movies, and building models at home. Contests were held in the identification of aircraft. USING OUR HANDS WOODSHOP CLUB The Woodshop Club, under the direction of Mr. Ralph Ragsdale, was busy most of the time making various things for the Red Cross. INVESTIGATING AND PRACTICING EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE In Miss Olson's first semester club there were very many interesting experi- ments done. Some of the experiments were making hydrogen, making gun powder, which they took out on the playground to try out, and synthetic rubber. A common subject of discussion was the atomic bomb.
