Mus., Miss Emma Green, B.A.g Mr. Victor Lunn, M.A. Not in picture Mr. Luther Seimers Ninth grade chorus as they appeared in the Christmas Sing MUSIC The music department offered both vocal and instrumental classes. Miss Lucile Mathre and Miss Helen Wilcox had charge of the vocal classes, while Miss Emma Green instructed the strings classes and the orchestra. Mr. Victor Lunn directed the winds classes and the band the first semester, and Mr. Luther Seimers the second semester. Each of the classes has performed in assemblies. Two evening concerts were given in the spring, one by the band, and one by the orchestra. 19

Miss Edith Staufg Miss Millie M. Knott, M.A., head of department, Miss Marjorie Brigham, B.S. Some girls in Miss Knott's fifth hour sewing class. HOUSEHOLD ARTS Household arts is very useful in time of war. It teaches the girls the fundamentals of home life. The seventh grade sewing classes learned how to make pinafores and to darn and patch torn garments. The clothing A classes made cotton skirts and blouses and have made many articles for the Red Cross. Home arts, a course given to all eighth grade girls, included child care, etiquette, hygiene, and architecture. The seventh classes in cooking worked mainly on the planning and making of breakfasts. The cooking A classes put most of their time into the Preparing of luncheons. 18

Miss Marie Copeland, RN., Nurse PHYSICAL EDUCATIGN The Physical Education department, through its many classes and athletic events, tried to build up the health of each student and to inspire each one to keep fit physically. Baseball, basketball, volley ball, tumbling, table tennis, shuf- Heboarcl, badminton, boxing and swimming were some of the required activities. Clean habits were stressed in locker rooms, in the pool, and on the gym Hoof. 20
