To gain from the teachers experience, the student must listen. Roosevelt's foreign language department offered students the opportunity to develop language skills. French and Spanish were available through the fifth- year level and advanced French classes used books which emphasized modern French literature and philosophy. Paris Match, a well-known French maga- zine, was also available and many students subscribed. German, Russian, and Latin were again offered this year, and Swedish was introduced, broadening the opportunities for Roosevelt students to learn foreign languages. Roosevelt had the opportunity to host a Swedish exchange student, contributing greatly to the new Swedish program. This year, the new rotating schedule en- abled more students to add a creative working period to their program. Sculpture, drawing, painting, design lab, ceramics, and commercial art were offered. Stu- dents had a chance to express themselves through working with clay, wood, plaster, metal, and paper. Each student worked for his own individual form of expression and also attempted to convey the unity of the whole creation. if . :L Syerna Forsman Ruth Gibbons Gail Ingle Swedish Teacher Spanish Teacher Latin Teacher Swedish Club Adv.
