The Arts Contribute tn llummunicatiun With the world rapidly becoming one unit, the foreign language teachers are helping to bridge American and foreign interests. Many of them travel to the countries which speak the language they teach. This last summer, Mrs. Edith Norman visited Spain and Miss Gail Ingle studied in Rome on a scholarship. Mrs. Norman also co-authored a Spanish text book which was published this fall. Trying to give us a better understanding of other countries, Social Studies teachers spend their vacations taking refresher courses and traveling. Miss Helen Anderson's last trip took her to such places as Australia and the Suez Canal. The Language Arts department endeavors to improve all communication. Recent activities of this group of teachers include: Mr. Gordon Mauer- mannis publishment of a playg Mr. Virgil Anderson's tour of Europe last summerg and Mr. Ivard Strauss's book on the art of stage direction which is in its final stages. Four new teachers were added to Roosevelt's faculty for the second semester. They are: Mr. Leonard Thrapp, Mrs. Helen Chess, Mrs. Agnes Arnold, and Mrs. julia Metz. They all have taught previously in Seattle Schools.
