ASR ASR Pat Miller Jan Borseth Katherine Johnson Historian Treasurer Secretary ASR Striues through Democracy With the fall sign-ups came the year-long campaign to bring the ASR closer to the stu- dents. Hall of Fame, Publicity, and Friendship committees were newly formed and three division heads were added. Prestige and membership of clubs increased through a drive launched by the ASR officers. Roll rooms successfully executed such drives as: perfect attendance, white shirts, CARE packages, food for needy families, making individual yell- books, and obtaining a flag, which formerly flew over the National Capitol. In autumn, the Teddies topped 'last year's pass sales, but still presented the Golden Axe and a talent assembly to victorious Lincoln. Color Week, climaxed by the Traditions Assem- bly, saw Teds wear green and gold, and decorate their rolls. Other proiects included: Back- to-School Night for the parents, stressing the use of suggestion boxes, placing painted cans by the fountains for depositing gum, and a Community Clean-up effort which kept litter off neighbors' lawns. Winter brought the Sportsmanship, Traffic-Safety, All-City, and State Leadership Con- ferences. The United Good Neighbors presented Roosevelt a plaque for having the largest school contribution. During Christmas time, Mr. lvard Strauss and Mrs. John Rushing gave organ recitals, and the choir carolled in the halls. A banana cart for transporting invalids was given to the Orthopedic Hospital. In spring came elections, campaign and inaugural assemblies and Campus Day with its cottons, baseball game, and talent assembly. Throughout the year, student-produced assemblies dominated the scene. Some were musical like those presented by the Roosevelt Orchestra, Seattle Symphony and by the Senior choir at Thanksgiving, several were dramatic like the Christmas and orientation assemblies, others had guest speakers such as Messrs. Charles Stokes, George Muench, Ome Diaber and Bishop Ellis Gulin. Fulfilling Mr. Reed Fulton's expressed hope, Let's make a good school better, the student government took the helm by coordinating ASR activities and undertaking original projects. While Cabinet sponsored Traffic Week with one-way stairs and the Walk While You Talk campaign, the Student Council got out the vote and urged good sportsmanship. The Advisory Council was busy enforcing school rules and counselling offenders. Above all, the ASR gave more students better opportunities of becoming active in ASR activities where they gained experiences invaluable throughout their lives. ,9 ASR Dave Williams Vice-President Marty Jordan Pre s'iilent ASR ASR
