Gaining honorable mention were such stalwarts as Gary Woodcock, tackle; Andy Espinoza, center; Don Lumley, end; plus Mel Mosteller and Gene Hull in the backfield. Spectators had just settled down for the first regular game of the season when on the initial play from scrimmage, Chuck Lewis of Garfield gathered in a stray Teddy pass and romped 32 yards for the first touchdown of the game. Throughout the year of play the team was led by sandy-haired Captain Bob McNamee who on and off the gridiron proved his ability as a leader. “Mac” showed his leadership by di- recting defensive strategy and settling all questions of penalties, using his judgment to call the right move. Each year after the record books have been tucked away, the local papers announce their selection of boys who, in their judgment, performed notably on the gridiron. Selected from Roosevelt were: Karl Benjamin, Larry Frack, Mike Monroe, Bob McNamee, and Bill Hudson.
