km-C! 50 . 6 HE MEDIEVAL institution of chivalry may be dead, but chivalry as a pattern for living asvfki high ideal of service to the cause of right. 'fig fag, lS very much alive. It lives wherever boys and girls purpose in their hearts to live for the 1 ni' Z. x ' '- '-?v2u'Q N' -'ZW' Theodore Roosevelt, for whom our school was named, was one of those who be- lieved in fighting aggressively for the right-in fact, he once said, It is the noblest sport the world affords. Roosevelt lived the thing he believed in. He lived vigorously and joyously-he was indeed a knight in shining armor. Today, as always, the challenge to you is to prepare in body, mind, and spirit to live and fight on the side which may lose an occasional battle, but always wins the war-the side which stands for the freedom of the individual to make of his life something decent, significant, and fine. En- listment in the fellowship of chivalry is always open-you may join now. CHI. jf. Eullnck Bins 3BrinnipaI I . 5 If ' ,X 1, 'X 'f 'J F ,1 H.-L 5 , x 6 xl. 5 L 5 N . 15 . 'S . And through the pages its busy, effective producers lead us to recapture in memory the days and feats of knighthood in the land of time gone by. 'J Strange figures today these warriors in shining armor on fiery steeds who rode forth from their castles on the hilltops down into the valleys to aid the weak and right the wrong. Yet h hould serious to them were their knightly vows and code of honor. Sans peur et sans reproc e s each defender of the code of knighthood strive to be. f To us they stand above all for courageg opposing their crude weapons and instruments in a world of fear to the unknown forces surrounding them. In Tennyson's words, And indeed he seems to me Scarce other than my own ideal knight, 'Who reverenced his conscience as his kingg Whose glory was, redressing human wrongg Who spake no slander, no, nor listened to it.' Their example should he an inspiration to us, as armed with the ever-broadening discoveries of modern science, and with confident acceptance of ethical standards and spiritual values, we move forward to carry on to greater summation the hopes and efforts of knights of yore.
