0 Wm STUDENTS OFTEN ASK THE REASON for the staff's choice of theme. Sometimes an explanation seems unnecessary, because the significance of the theme and its relation to school life are so obvious. But we want to make sure every student understands. Our theme is Historical Seattle. We chose this because Seattle is our city. To genuinely appreciate our city, we must know it. Of course, we all know where the Uni- versity and Pioneer Square are located. But we mean a knowledge of the personalities and the events that have contributed to the city's development. It is people who make a city, people like Chief Seattle, Edmond Meany, and the students of Roosevelt High. Chief Seattle gave the city its name. He was a noble Indian, dignified, kindly, and honorable. These characteristics are our heritage from him, along with our name. We sincerely hope that you enjoy this yearbook and that we have helped to stimulate in you an interest in the history of Seattle. ' 1 x THE STAFF 5 Elf - sig' 014 c un.
