O CLASSES IT MAY BE SAID that the great white race is a leveling agent in the development of our country. It has gathered together the bountiful fruits of other races to aid in creating an American civilization. . . The English came to America to relieve themselves and their children of the per- secutions and intolerances, which they had suffered in their former homes. America, through these pilgrims, has become a haven for the persecuted peoples of many races. They have passed on to us, their successors, a challenge to incorporate into our lives a desire for enlightenment, democracy, and an appreciation of the opportunities of a free public school system which they have founded in our land ......
