a am . The Roosevelt homecoming game was one of the best games of the year. The Rough Riders beat the Lee Volunteers by a score of 9 to 7. During the halftime the band played the music of 'fThe Homecoming and Yester- daysi' while the Homecoming Queen and King were announced. Our new Principal, Mr. John Wells and the Presi- dent of the Theodore Roosevelt Student Council, Melissa Morales, made the presentations to the King and Queen. The Queen for Homecoming '85 was Diana Tse, and the King was Jim Nix. After the announcement of King and Queen, the band played a royal fanfare for them as they lead the other members of the court off the field. Roosevelt finished off the game with a field goal and only about 30 seconds left. The football team and the coaches did a great job of making the Homecom- ing game a very special event. Queen and King of Homecoming '85, Diane Tse and Jim Nix lead the court. II work Play Shonny Sheffield, freshman, sum- med up the opinion of most students when she said, We should have more pleasure in life and be able to go more places? It wasn't all talk, however, when students took action and refused to concentrate solely on academics. While routine was the best way to describe the typical school day, members of the student body tried to break the monotony by getting in- volved with a variety of activities. Many used their well-deserve break to earn pocket change while others used the free time to attend afternoon and night pep rallies. Another past- time many shared was dating. Lots of Rough Riders could be found on Fri- day night with their favorite compa- nion of the opposite sex but others preferred to go Stag and play the field. A sure way to please dates was to celebrate Mardi Gras at Blossom Stu- dent Center on October 26, where the annual Homecoming Dance was in full swing. Things were not much different two decades ago. Students of the late sixties also demanded academic-free time. Then, same as now, balancing grades, parental pressures, work and fun is the key to a happy student life. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! My ideol woy to relox after Q hectic week is to snuggle up with my boyfriend, o good movie, ond o lorge pizzo!!
