After school ended the beach turned to be the social gathering. People from all over Texas, including students from Roosevelt joined in on the fun. Thousands combed the beach throughout the day and night. Many of them without places to stay slept on the sandy shores. Others who choose not to sleep circl- ed the DRAG all night long. Others could not join in on the summer activities because of early morning practices at school. The band started practices at 7:30 am going on through the heat of the afternoon to prepare themselves for the upcoming year. Other organizations prepared themselves for sum- mer camps, like the cheerleaders. g'We put in a lot of exhausting hours which paid off in the end, said Kelle Kirk. Cheerleaders went to S.M.U. camp in Dallas. Both JV and Varsity camps came back with superior and excellent ratings. The Patriots prepared themselves for a camp in Georgetown. They came back with a first place in high kick and overall blue ribbon and a courtesy award under the supervision of their new sponsor, Donna Sager, they represented TR in a highly fashionable man- ner. The Regiment unlike other squads had their tryouts in the summer. They spent the first part of their summerpreparing themselves for the final cut. Shortly after the members of the Regiment were chosen, they and their new sponsor, Robin Reed, were trained in Kathleen O'C0nn0r and Cheryl Wildenstien have fun in the sun at Canyon Lake.
