Vols Outlast Riders, 27-14 After a season opening 41-O victory over Cor- pus Christi Moody the Rough Riders were enthu- siastic and ready to tackle the third-rated team in the city, the Lee Volunteers. The Vols took an early lead and then made clutch plays to overcome a late Roosevelt rally and won the game, 27-14. The Riders played much better than the final score indicates, but Lee's strong defense and our untimely turnovers gave the Volunteers an advantage during the first half which they never relinquished. The Riders were motivated during the second half, scoring two touchdowns, but the Vols also scored twice to retain their lead and won by 13 points.
