Speert Nominated After teaching in NEISD for fifteen years, Edith Speert, Sociology instructor, was nominated as teacher of the year. l don't know why they chose me because there are many, many, many good teachers, replied Speert when asked about the nomination. Speert teaches five hours of Sociology a day. During classes students are encouraged to par- ticipate in controversial discussions and in unu- sual exercises dealing with such subiects as cul- tural excesses, transactional analysis, Gestalt therapy, racial relations, poverty and death. My teaching philosophy can also be stated by quoting Henry Adams: 'A teacher affects eter- nity - he can never tell where his influence stops,' concludes Speert.

i r Cheerleaders Aim For Spirit Putting spirit into pep rally crowds, and those at football, basketball and baseball games was the aim of Varsity cheerleaders. An additional responsibility was the presenting of awards at the North East Track meet. While attending summer camp at SMU the group won the spirit stick and five superior awards.
