Speert Nominated After teaching in NEISD for fifteen years, Edith Speert, Sociology instructor, was nominated as teacher of the year. l don't know why they chose me because there are many, many, many good teachers, replied Speert when asked about the nomination. Speert teaches five hours of Sociology a day. During classes students are encouraged to par- ticipate in controversial discussions and in unu- sual exercises dealing with such subiects as cul- tural excesses, transactional analysis, Gestalt therapy, racial relations, poverty and death. My teaching philosophy can also be stated by quoting Henry Adams: 'A teacher affects eter- nity - he can never tell where his influence stops,' concludes Speert.
