Hennessy Gives Prestige To Big Stick As editor of the BIG STICK, KATIE HENNESSY brought the newspaper to an excellence which placed it among the top five high school publications in the state. Although being editor was a full-time, day and sometimes night-time iob, KATIE also excelled in numerous other activities. She founded and later served as both vice-presi- .-A 'HER ...ffwrar dent and secretary of the Ecology Club, was co-editor of the Outlook for three years, served as secretary and later president of Quill and Scroll, was a member of both the NHS and the Social Studies Honor Club and won count- less U.l.L. awards. ln addition to this KATIE, a ten-year member of the Girl Scouts, piloted a clean-up program for the Salado Creek area, and graduated as an Honor Stu- dent.

Cadet Colonel HAROLD C. lWOODYl DAVIS, JR., not only served as Corps Commander of the Roosevelt ROTC, but also served as president of the Student Coun- cil. Active in many school and civic affairs, WOODY had the distinction of being selected as the second place win- ner in the Boys Division of the Elks National Youth Leader- ship Contest along with a 51,750 Educational Certificate. Under his leadership the Student Council initiated a cam- pus beautification program, made a chain boundary for the smoking area, opened Student Council meetings to all interested students, distributed lD's and worked for the improvement of student facilities. Editing a yearbook involved more than finding a group of pictures and laying-out a page, SAGAMORE editor NANCY UGALDE had a full year to find this out. Editing the Sagamore involved staying after school and many times working at school during weekends and holi- days, but the yearbook proceeded as scheduled and all went well.
