Industrial arts popular Probably the most popular elective at Roosevelt was again industrial arts. Because the Auto Magnet was part of the department, students from all over the city could register for courses offered. Both one and two-hour blocks of classes gave students the chance to engage in introductory as well as advanced training in industrial subjects. While it was common in the past for students to enroll in such dosses as o termination in their formal education, today industrial arts students are more frequently just beginning what will be many years of post high school courses. Woods, machine shop, small engines and drafting remained popular classes. Driving ambition As always, many students were turned away at Tolly when waiting to sign up for driver education. “Two more classes could fill up eoch tri, said instnxter George Baity. Ninth graders could tally only during third tri. “Some 60 75% of dosses are interested and about half of the students have done well, said Ronold (hall, another instructer. The classes received a new text, simulation movies and some new signs which gave the course a more modern look.
