Included in this musical variety show are talented artists, the popular music of today, ond comedy. Within the halls and classrooms of Roosevelt, students and teochers alike create a solid gold atmosphere similar to that of the show. Throughout the year, Roosevelt gold shines with academics, sports, music, dance, acting, ond the shored laughter of friends working in these oreas. Gold is precious; yet because it is malleable, it can be shaped into even more valuable items. Our voluable gold Teddies are in the process of being shaped for the future. Teddie spirir was displayed in many other ospecrs than jusr rhe classroom. Sonne srudenrs chose ro represent Roosevelt by joining on athletic reom. Students nor parriaparing on teams showed their support for those who did. Other groups throughout rhe school practiced jusr as athletic reams did ro show their school spirir. This practice added to rhe many performances in Roosevelr's programs. Woshburn dominated the gome for the first three quarters. However, the Teddies pulled together in the fourth quarter and scored a pair of touchdowns. They were nor enough to salvage the gome, though. Gowans field hod two new features this year. Central High's scoreboard helped the fons keep rrock of the game. A new gross surface was another noticeable improvement. They put in many hours of work, not only during school, but offer school as well. The most satisfaction of being on the stage crew is when the job is completed.'' said senior Richord Smith. Probably their biggest assignment was the building of sets and the setting up of lights and sound for the musical Fiddler on rhe Roof. Often stage crew members had to grab a bog lunch or send someone our to McDonald's for a quarter pounder as they stayed or school waiting for on evening rehearsal or performance to begin. It was necessary to guard equipment, even when rhe auditorium was locked. Furthermore, the scholarship is renewable. All of this come about because she was recommended by journalism teacher Cindy Anderson ro participate in rhe three week workshop titled Urban Journalism. During rhe first week of the program, nine Twin City high school students stayed in dorms or the University of Minnesota and went to doss ro learn basic writing skills. For rhe last two weeks, Burnside, along with half of the other students, was sent ro rhe Sr. Paul Dispatch Newspaper, while rhe other half was sent ro rhe Minneapolis Star and Tribune. At the Sr. Paul Dispatch, each student wrote a story based on teenage fathers. Burnside was given rhe assignment of interviewing rhe ac-tuol reenoge fathers. Surprisingly enough, rhe subjects were willing to cooperate,” stared Burnside.
