The activities started at 6:00 a. m. with the senior breakfast followed by the powderpuff game. The auditorium began with the excitement of the coronation of King Danny Larson and Queen LeAnn Hardon. Student (stoo'd’nt) n. one who studies something Council (koun's'l) n. a group of people called together for discussions, advice, etc. According to Webster's dictionary that's what student council should be doing. Having discussion and giving advice? Well, basically, yes, but there is a lot more to it than that. Each representative is elected by the homeroom he or she will represent. It is then their job to keep students informed of what is happening in the school that affects them. The representative also relays any ideas the students have to the meetings to attempt to implement these ideas. The student council works with the P. T. S. A. to improve understanding between parents, teachers, and students. With officers D. Midthun and E. Slayton and advisers W. Tilbury and L. Engstrom, the student council has been involved in many projects this year. One of the ma‘or tasks was rewriting the school constitution. They also are credited with the first Hallowe'en d ess-up day. 103 Front Row: K. Herring, P. Stephenson, M. Sudman, T. Wcscott, R. Leighton, Row Two: G. Alaxander, K. Nickel son, D. With the inspiration of all the other squads, the sophomores had to succeed. Left: Sue Ramsey Both Mary and Sue were chosen in the middle of the year. Well, the Audio-Visual class isn't quite that easy; in fact, all those wires, plugs, splicers, jacks, speakers, recorders, reels and other technical equipment are enough to make a novice blow a fuse. Mr. D. Iverson, the adviser, keeps the crew busy fixing equipment, delivering equipment and making equipment. Hopefully, during an auditorium, you never see the stage crew, but they are behind the scenes making things operate correctly. Under the direction of Mr. E. Johnson and Mr. S. Phillipps, the stage crew works the lights, the curtains, the sound and all the props to help make the auditorium programs successful. The stage crew, From Top To Bottoms F. Kauffmann, R. Carlson, B. Well, it's practice... on quicker starts, smoother turns, dare-devil dives, and faster, more powerful strokes. It's twenty laps of warm-ups, then onto leg kicks, arm pulls, sprints, and endurence. Also it's leg cramps, stinging chlorine filled eyes, coaches yelling to keep going, and an unexpected mouth full of water. But, it's also a lot of fun. Occasional water fights and dog paddle races to end a hard practice. Then comes the big day, The meet. Standing on the starting blocks, jumpy and excited. Dead silence. Swimmers, take your marks BANG And you're off, pushing and pulling, trying your hardest to bring that time down lower, lower. You eighter give all you have or else you blow your chance. And it's cheering others on till your voice is hoarse. And if you win, it's the joy of pushing the coach in. Finally, the bouncy bus ride home, shouting all the way. Lisa Dallas 179 Art-- I don't know what's good, I just know what I like . Students at Rosey Tech show their talents thru the paintings, jewelry, sculptures, etc.. displayed in the showcase by the art classes. Others show their talents on desks, folders, and even bathroom walls. Art is an expression of inner feelings, shown in many different ways. Band--Early morning practices and drilling in hot and cold weather can be a bummer. You march in patterns you'll never see. You play a piece and no one hears your accomplishment; but with every song you share a victory. Cheerleaders--Being a cheerleader is the return of enthusiasm from the crowd. It means hours of practice, sore muscles, cold days and rainy nights. The most rewarding part is having 4000 people know your name. Dating--Spending time with someone who is a special part of your life. Wanting to be with that person, not really caring what you do or where you go, for just as long as you're together you know the time you spend will be as wonder! ul as it could be. 180 Eating--Eating is the battle to get a large helping of something good at a cheap price. Eating is preparing yourself for the jump from size 8 to 12. It's also expecting the unexpected. Friendship--A friend is one who looks through all your imprefections. This once-in-a-lifetime person is one who cares and loves you not with emotion alone, but also with understanding. G life. raduation--Tears, last goodbyes, and reaching out to what's ahead in Hangouts--Radiators and stairwells are the usual hangouts for the Roosevelt students. Between classes we have a whole 5 minutes to stop and hear the latest gossip; and then bum out about your next favorite class. Individuals--Being yourself is a big accomplishment here at Roosevelt. Knowing that you are one of a kind; and you are liked for just being yourself. Jocks--Are people with a lot of school spirit. They are involved in many different school activities. When you finish school, you will really be glad that you took part in it and you'll have so many happy memories. 161 18J K1 ids-- Could you please tell me where room 151 is? It is only two doors down to your right. Oh, how embarrassing! It is really hard being a sophomore... entering a big school scared out of your mind. The most rewarding part is meeting all those new people... and by the time you are a senior, you couldn't get any closer to these once strange people. L eisure--Time just spent by goofing off and getting rowdy. Sometimes it becomes quite difficult to determine just how long leisure time should last! There is a big test coming up, papers due yesterday, homework that doesn't stop and an oral report due tomorrow. Hey, there's a good flick tonight! Me Donald’s--The only close place in town where you can get food under a dollar. The place whre everyone goes for lunch and after games... where everyone goes to end their evenings. Nightlife --Nightlife really varies. So many people like to do different things, from movies to school activities, such as, games and dances. Then the big weekend comes up... the parties Saturday night and no work on Sunday morning. .VAV o ffice-- Late again. What a drag. ,rWhat's he gonna say this time? Pepfests--Bring out the life in the students. The enthusiasm, excitement, rowdiness, tears and laughter make our pepfests hold the best memories ever. OFFICE 184 Quiet-- Shhh, is about all you hear in the library except people breathing. Doing just your work can get pretty boring after awhile. A lot of people like the silence since they cannot study in any class or at home. Rockettes-- Get those legs up. You're starting on the wrong foot I Learning all new dances. Every time you perform is nerve racking, but being proud at the end of the dance knowing that you did your best. Sleep-- Will you please pay attention! Grades slowly dropping, trying so hard to keep those lids open is a drag. It is hard enough to stay awake let alone do the work in class. Teddies--Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, Faculty and staff, all working together to make the teddies the best ever. Understanding--The relief of knowing that someone really knows what you're talking about. It is a good feeling to find out how many people really listen and care. Victories--A feeling of satisfaction knowing that all the practice, hardwork and time spend was all worthwhile. Onward to victory, that our aim! 186 W winter--Winter to some people is really a great time of the year. But for others, it is cold and miserable! We all wait patiently and get keyed for the summer. Xtra special--Xtra special is what you get out of life. All the special things that mean so much to you, now and forever. ou--You are the individual among others who made this book possible. Z ero--Zero is the average of that last test grade, plus the number of dates last month, plus the balance in your savings account. Zeroes are like holes in your socks; they're round and they show up when you hate them most. ) General Index Operation Christinas Basket Patchwork .W. . . . Pep Club.............. ........... I think that the staff this year, is the best I have seen at any high school in Minnesota, and I have seen quite a few. Josten s American Yearbook Company presented the staff with the Golden Eagle Award for efficiency. This is the highest honor Josten's has to bestow, and this is the first time Roosevelt has even received this award. I would also like to thank, on behalf of the staff and myself, the administration and the faculty for excusing members of the staff to help meet commitments when we were pressed for time. In addition, our sincere thanks goes to Chuck Robinson, our yearbook representative from Josten's. Chuck has helped out during the year in any way he could.. .from keeping us supplied with everything we needed... to helping us negotiate all the business arrangements. Many more words of appreciation than can be put on a page this size are due our adviser, Mrs. Hennings-gard. Her enthusiasm and seemingly boundless energy have made this book something that we can all be proud of. She never stopped helping us make this book the best it could be. She has an energetic school spirit that 'just won't quit', and our thanks to you, Mrs. Henningsgard. Ken Carlson Editor
