The foot stompin', hog callin' Sadie Hawkins dance this year was downrite fun. The girls took over money problems for the evening, brought the guys and provided them with vegetable corsages. L'il Abner- Dave Revsbeck and Daisy Mae- Kim Dean, reigned over the evening's festivities. Square dancing, kick-a-pooh-joy-juice, doughnut holes, and for those with a little more in mind- Marrin' Sam, highlighted Dogpatch R.H.S. Runaway menfolk were stuck in jail until their partners finally decided to put up bail. Co-chairgals this year were Shelly Berke and Cindy Swanson. Above- Funny what that joy juice can make you do! Below- Couples line up for inspection. L'il Abner and Daisy Mae. Should I or shouldn't I? WSD - New Ideas With Old Traditions The theme of this year's Winter Sports Day was Suck a Snoball —put into more common language— don't eat the yellow snow. The 1973 WSD King was on hand to crown this year's WSD King Lee Haakenson, a controversial write-in candidate. Pep Club also had their own idea for the WSD auditorium—they staged a rigged election for a WSD queen. The Rock-ettes danced to Boom-Boom. Co-chairpersons Carol Sersland and Paul Erickson worked hard for a successful day of festivities. David Melchisedech Lee Haakenson 21 This year's festivities started out Thursday after school Bll Tt Setback and Dick Bain with a close broomball game, won by Seniors 74-75 (low score wins), and snow sculpturing on Gowans Field. The Seniors, of course, took first place again this year with the sly Juniors taking a far behind second place and Sophomores making an attempt. Friday we had our unforgettable auditorium where the Haak was crowned King. School got out early, so kids took off to their favorite lunch spots, McDonald's. Lake Inn, Dave's, etc. After having a most enjoyable afternoon many hurried home to get ready for the dance that night. There was a good turn out and everyone had a fine time listening and dancing to Volcano, singing in the halls, and doing what ever it took iomake the end of WSD 1974 a great one. VOTE HA A ICE M S 0 M uiiri -10 Snoball theme for 1974 was Just You and Me . This year the dance was held at the new Howard Johnson's. Guys in tuxes and girls in formats danced to the music of Jade, while others searched for blue and yellow favors. Co-Chairpersons Mary Rauenhorst and Nancy Lanns worked hard to produce an affair with lasting memories. After the dance, couples went to their favorite eating spots like Eddie Webster's, Thunderbird, and Howard Wong's, to relax and enjoy the evening. Where Have All the Pepfests Gone? Pepfests were limited to four this year, because the administration did not feel that they were presented well enough to be worthwhile. The few we had were well planned, conducted and attended, proving that auditoriums were not used as a chance to skip classes. We showed our responsibility and maturity this year, hopefully there will be more pepfests next year. Below: Guy line up for inspection. imm Bucky gives pep talk. Godspell Spells Audience This year's musical review, taken from the Broadway hit Godspell, was one of the best Roosevelt has seen. The musical was presented in two parts: Joseph and the Ama ing Technicolor Dreamcoat was a story from the Old Testament, Godspell was composed of songs from the New. Under the direction of M. Weinblatt, there was a wide array of costumes, songs, dances, and good K. Flick jml t Ocel join together in last song Pharaoh and his throne Students Join Together to Help Others Colleen Crooks, a Sophomore at Roosevelt, was seriously injured in a car accident during the fall. Dick Bain began a money raising campaign in order to aid the family financially with hospital expenses. Through a large raffle, and students, faculty, and families banding together, the Colleen Crooks fund was raised to over 3,000 dollars. Following tradition, this year's Operation Christmas Basket was quite a success. Over 76 baskets were made, and with the 886 dollars that was collected, little extras were put in each basket. Roosevelt students had a chance to really prove themselves this year and that they did. It's only too bad that there has to be a tragedy before people will unit for the good of others. 28 The concert band season started November 20th with the second annual Roosevelt Area Band Festival. This concert, featuring the Roosevelt Nokomis and Folwell bands, had a grand finale as the three.bands combined into one mass band for the last number. Christmas was celebrated with the residents of Luther Hall of the Ebenezer Home when the band dimbed 7 flights of stairs to play a concert for the residents who could attend. The Pop Concert this year celebrated the band's invitation to Vienna with a sight and sound program. Contest time this spring will find R.H.S. Band members hard at work for that elusive A rating. Then on to Vienna. Everyday at 7:30 A.M. sharp, the sound Alright, everybody out on the field! sent ' sleepy people out on the football field to get ready for that big game. This year's Choir and Choralaires provided some fascinating entertainment for the students of RHS. The Choralaires started something new this year by dividing their group into two groups “A Cappella and Pop”. During the whole school year they performed in all pepfests and auditoriums. The choir got off to a nice start in their fall concert Bach to Rock and added to that in the Christmas concert and in their annual Spring concert. Possibly the biggest highlite of the year was the trip to Winnipeg during the spring. These were just a few of the many things that the choir did. Madrigals. Randv Svitak Advisor, Bill Tilbury Somewhere between seven or eight bells, Roosevelt's own Senators could be seen roaming the halls every Tuesday morning. They watched the Roadrunner on TV, or got down to serious business planning Homecoming, Winter Sports Day and May Day. The Senate helped to raise money for organizations, and kept Open Lunch open. Between yawns, scratches, and stretches, the sleepy Senators found that being a part of student government was an interesting experience! 37 Good Morning, Business Manager, (..Johnson Managing Editor, C.Madsen These words were heard during H.R, after the Standard staff worked long and hard to produce the best paper ever. Reporters covered their beats, created stories and added final touches for deadlines. But they managed to find moments for relaxation, wrestling and penny-pitching. After 17 issues of following school news, the staff knew that they had made Roosevelt's newspaper, Standard. It's a combination of taking rare of who is and who isn't in class, it's leading exercises, and helping the teacher make gym what it is. leadership is sometimes just helping out a student or two who feel too dumb to ask a teacher what it is that they arc supposed to do. Leadership is aiding in the sophomore and junioi gym classes. As well as students learning from the aides, it's almost for sure that the leadership group has had one or two experiences where they can say that they have learned from the students that they are aiding.
