We Enter a Hall Filled with Busy Students and Though the bell which officially begins a day at Roosevelt does not ring until 8120 AM., the halls are bustling with activity long before then. Students who drive leave home as early as 7:30 to begin picking up riders, while those taking the bus may leave a little later. Once in school, there are many things to be taken care before that first bell rings. Coats, books and lunches are hurriedly stuffed into lockers. Girls dash off to primp for the long doy ahead, while boys congregate in the halls to discuss last night's game or those ever-present car problems. Teachers, busy with last-minute preparations, still find time to help a puzzled pupil. ln a few quiet corners throughout the school, lone students cram frantically for the day's big exam. Notices of club meetings and special events are dis- tributed to the various homerooms. For th e with no errands, o leisurely vvallc around the halls seems the perfect way to sto rt the doy. We Spend the Mornin A typical Teddy gentleman, Mike O'Brien, treats Sybil Schroeder to a free drink during a break between classes. Who introduced the Square Deal? asks history teacher E. Haynes as E. Knox and K. Soderstrom are ready with an answer. Studying, but Interrupt After homeroom, students settle into a daily rou- tine of studies. Discussions begin in many classrooms, while in others, students are busy with an assignment or are writing out the answers to test questions. Elsewhere in the building, the buzzing of sewing machines, the clattering of dishes or the bell of a typewriter indicate the beginning of another day's work. A basketball game begins in the gym. The halls are filled with a nauseating odor peculiar to the chemistry laboratory. Shouts of laughter go up from one room, while students in other rooms are quietly reading and studying. The five minutes between classes allows enough time for a drink at the fountain or a chat with a friend. How was the test? and Save me a place at lunch! are familiar cries at these times. Occasionally, the morning is interrupted by an auditorium program. These special auditoriums in- clude a wide variety of programs ranging from cele- bration of special holidays to lone speakers, demon- strations, concerts andthe less formal pep tests.
