Foreword Gray stone blocks in the upper corners of a large brick building in South Minneapolis label this edifice as Theodore Roosevelt High School. This building is in constant use by over twenty-four hundred students and faculty dur- ing the school year. Activity begins in Septem- ber when new sophomores, as well as return- ing upperclassmen, enter Roosevelt, and ceases in June with graduation for seniors and a three months vacation for underclassmen. Roosevelt graduates, after three years of preparation for the future, settle in many dis- n parts of the world and go to many areas fl Ol EM ork, thus the name of Roosevelt High is W a ried far from its actual location. While in RHS students are offered oppor JW tunities which lead to advancement in many W areas. ln the classroom, training and a knowl- ge of basic skills for future iobs or college e given ln addition to a students academic life, organizations offer individuals experi- ence in human relations, leadership and an appreciation of the arts. Afternoon and eve- ning events at Roosevelt also account for much of a student's social life. The 1961 Sagamore is a memory book which will be shared and treasured for years to come. While the Opening Section shows the highlights of any day at Roosevelt, the en- tire book of 244 pages permanently records the complete T960-61 school year. To give a clearer picture of the events of this year, the Sagamore has been improved in many ways. The LARGER f9xl2l book has been divided into three sections - Students, Activities, and Academic. Each of these sec- tions begins with a RED DUO-TONE picture on the division page. A more complete Aca- demic Section provides a brief summary of each department and records any changes during the year. To make the book more at- tractive, two additional colors have been used throughout the Opening Section. Thus, when- ever we page through this Sagamore, WE PASS through the l96O-6l school year at Roosevelt High.
