ln September of 1960 the halls and classrooms of Roosevelt High School were again filled with the sound of people after cu quiet summer. Almost 2300 students entered Roosevelt's doors, agreeing, for the first week, that school was a relief after a summer of clerking in a store, vacationing in Alaska, camp- ing with the Scouts or just plain loafing. Sopho- mores, while oftentimes confused and bewildered in new surroundings, rejoiced at the sight of a familiar face - someone from junior high. Juniors were re- united with friends from last year, and seniors, al- though excited about being upperclassmen, were a bit saddened by the thought that this was the be- ginning of the end. With the constant cry of ?'l've just got gobs to tell you!! excited students tried to spill out three months' news in five minutes. 0 Gay moods turned to more serious ones as teach- ers began making assignments. Studying once again became a major part of life as students prepared for future careers, college, or marriage.
