Norse Club The Norse Club organized in 1926 is one of the oldest clubs at Roosevelt. Students who have studied or are studying the Norwegian language are eligible for membership. The club meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month. Among the social activities in which the Norse Club participated were the initiation of new members, taking part in the Homecoming activities, Christmas Party, and the Senior Farewell Banquet. The Norse Club along with the Swedish Club sponsor the annual Scandinavian Spring Festival. Each year the Sons of Norway’ lodges award a trophy to a student who has made progress in Norwegian. Debate The Debate Club under the direction of Mr. Osterhus was organized in 1930 for students interested in public speaking. The members participate in various debates throughout the city. The club meets twice a week. This year the Debate Squad took fourth place in the Region 5 State High School Debate Tournament. Swedish This is the 29th year of the Swedish Club at Roosevelt. The members of this organization, headed by Mr. Benson, must have taken Swedish at some time during their three years in Roosevelt. This year, as in past years, the club had a skating party and met afterwards at the president's home for refreshments. Since Mr. Benson's return from Sweden, the club has taken a greater interest in the Club culture of the country. And, as a result, he hopes that this year he might make it possible for some Swedish student to study for a few months in Sweden as one student did last year. In April the club visited the American-Swedish Institute. There they saw many old paintings and antiques. After the tour, they had a smorgasbord in the basement of the building. French Club One of the largest clubs at Roosevelt is the newly formed French Club. It is affiliated with the Latin Club. Under the supervision of Mr. Swadner. it was started two years ago in September of 1956. Any student who is a member of the French class or who has completed the French course may join the Society of Frenchmen. The second Wednesday of every month will find the combined Latin and French Club meeting in the auditorium. At this meeting plans are usually made for the month's social event. The club has sponsored a wiener roast, hayride. club dance, and a car-wash to finance the annual banquet. Each year awards are given to the students who have contributed the most service to the club and have made progress in French class.
