Hi-Y The Roosevelt Hi-Y is one of the oldest organizations in the school. It was organized in 1926 and has been active ever since. As the name implies, the club is related to both school and the YMCA. Its purpose is to create, maintain, and extend throughout the home, school, and community high standards of Christian character. Membership in Hi-Y is open to anyone regardless of race, color, and creed as long as he subscribes to the stated purpose. Besides regular weekly meetings, Hi-Y members participate in social activities and service projects. Club members help raise funds for school projects by operating the concession stands at home football games. During the past year, Hi-Y members participated in other service projects. Honor Society Anyone who is a member of the Senior Honor Society will gladly tell you about the ventures on their trip to Washington, D. C. This is a highlight of the year for the society. Qualifications for membership are a scholastic average of 2.3 and outstanding personal qualities. The majority are initiated into the society at the beginning of the year or a ceremony where they are given their pin by an old member. The keystone and the flaming torch on the pin symbolize service, character, scholarship, and leadership. They also have activities of a social nature which include a picture party, an initiation tea, a spring supper, in addition to the trip. The members are privileged to wear a gold cord at graduation. Student Council Student Council is the government of the school. Its membership consists of a delegate representing each homeroom. The members work very hard to organize activities and keep the government of the school working smoothly throughout the year. The student governed lunchroom is just one of the many jobs performed by the Council. NO ACTS , an organization where a stu- dent who is a member will get reduced insurance rates if he or she has no accidents over a six months period, has been put into effect at Roosevelt by the Student Council. Social events of the year planned by the Council were Homecoming, Winter Sports Day, Save the Children Federation, and many spring activities. Mr. Courtney is in his first year as Council adviser.
