Honor Society Anyone who is a member of the Senior Honor Society will gladly tell you about the ventures on their trip to Washington, D. C. This is a highlight of the year for the society. Qualifications for membership are a scholastic average of 2.3 and outstanding personal qualities. The majority are initiated into the society at the beginning of the year or a ceremony where they are given their pin by an old member. The keystone and the flaming torch on the pin symbolize service, character, scholarship, and leadership. They also have activities of a social nature which include a picture party, an initiation tea, a spring supper, in addition to the trip. The members are privileged to wear a gold cord at graduation. Staff For one full year, fifteen of us seniors have met every fourth hour to plan and produce a book that may be full of memories. This book is the 1958 Sagamore. There were many problems that we as a staff had to solve, as well as those each individual section had to meet. The first one. and probably the most important was the choosing of our theme. This took us about two and a half months. During this time many suggestions ranging from Sputniks to Fairy Tales were voiced. However, there always seemed to be one good reason or another for not using them. Finally we got the idea of using our Minnesota Centennial as a theme. It then took two more weeks before we could decide on all the details. After this, every section had pictures to plan and take, layouts to make, pictures to caption and stories to write so that we could turn the book over to the printer by May I. This is the product of our labors. This is a product? Well, we the 1958 Sagamore Staff think so and we hope, that in years to come, it will remind you of many happy memories. Hi-Y The Roosevelt Hi-Y is one of the oldest organizations in the school. It was organized in 1926 and has been active ever since. As the name implies, the club is related to both school and the YMCA. Its purpose is to create, maintain, and extend throughout the home, school, and community high standards of Christian character. Membership in Hi-Y is open to anyone regardless of race, color, and creed as long as he subscribes to the stated purpose. Besides regular weekly meetings, Hi-Y members participate in social activities and service projects. Club members help raise funds for school projects by operating the concession stands at home football games. During the past year, Hi-Y members participated in other service projects.
