It is the only newspaper, among the many other high school newspaper in Minneapolis, that is published weekly. There are twen- ty-six issues put out per year. During the past year the staff has purchased a new type called the Twentieth Century 604 Type. It is used for the printing of head lines. There is one editor for each page except for pages one and three on which two or more persons work. More Competent Members Nolan, I. Olson, McGovern, Shannon, Foster, Doan, Kallstrom. The Holly Hop, one of our first fall dances, was sponsored by the Standard. The Standard, although inexpensive to buy, is quite expensive to run. Since pic- ture costs are quite high, the staff mem- bers are trying to discover new methods of getting finer pictures for a lower price. The Standard staff has covered nearly every event of the school year. Many thought- provoking editorials such as Clubs, Sports Are Fun If Grades Are Kept Up, Education, Tolerance Necessary for Peace, and What Do You Mean You Have Nothing To Be Thankful For? have added much to the editions.

In order to become a mem- ber ot this club you must be the winner ot an R letter. Being a member of this club is one of the most desirable things tor a boy to gain at Roosevelt. This club is representative ot the boys who have participated on Roosevelt's many championship teams. For example, last year the Teds grabbed off champion- ships in basketball, swimming, wrestling, volleyball, a co-championship in skiing, and the Northwest championship in gym- nastics. Last tall Roosevelt's gridders tied for the city title. Also, the cross-country Won In 1953 team took second place. In this year's win- ter sports Roosevelt was second in basket- ball, swimming, wrestling, skiing, and gymnastics. However, the gymnastics team won the Northwest title tor the sec- ond straight year. At the time this story was written the spring sports had not started actual com- petition, but the golt squad seems to have the best chance tor a high finish in the city standings. lt doesn't look to encour- aging tor the tennis team, however, there are possibilities. The baseball and track teams are fairly strong in spots and with hard work could prove to be very suc- cesstul. 1111519

The Sagamore In room 214 there is a small group ot students who plod steadily toward a com- mon goal. They work for one hour each day to complete the Sagamore. The stu- dents ot Roosevelt entrust many ot their high school memories to this staff. Their earnestness is illustrated by the fact that they often work during tree time to com- plete assignments on time. One seldom sees statt members or hears ot them until that day in May when the new, clean Sagamores are delivered. Ev- So What's With These Guys? Standing: Hendrickson, Emery, Hall. Seated: Larsen, Denham. eryone is eager to see the pictures ot him- self cmd his triends. For days afterwards the books are covered by sentiments and signatures written by anyone who has a pen handy. Then the Sagamores are put away and may not be looked at again tor years. During those years the people in the book have married, started families, and made careers tor themselves.
