Roosevelt and West are the only schools in Minneapolis ottering this course. Betore be- ginning to drive the pupils tal4e a written ex- amination and a vision test given by the State Highway Patrol, They then receive a driverls permit allowing them to drive only when ac- companied by a licensed driver. Mr, Vogtse berger begins the lessons in the parlcing lot. l-le teaches the pupils how to shilt and how to con- trol the car at various speeds. Drama Gives Expression Drama may be taken in the eleventh grade or in the tweltth grade. Some ot the things taken up are readings ot various types ot stage plays and a discussion ot cur- rent plays. Some schools otter a course in radio drama where the students learn the use ot a microphone, announcing, script writing, and the art ot developing and using sound ettects. ln drama the students study Oantomime, characterization, and stage techniques. News and English Casses in news are popuiar at Rooseveit. Students who can write well choose it ard creative writing to practice their slcills. Mr. Niel- sen selects his statt members tor the Standard trom his news classes. News may be used as a substitute tor regular English in the eleventh grade. ln grade twelve students study world understanding.
