OUR STUDENT LEADERS Early in the school year our student govern- ment, under the leadership of Mark Burns- wick, was called upon to get the school year off on the right foot. Among their many duties were the operation of the student court, as- signment of lockers to every student. plan- ning dances and other social functions as- sisting the control of the buildings and grounds, and working with the assembly chair- man, Archie Battle, to help in the planning of some of our many fine assemblies We are all proud of our selected student representatives, and we shall miss them. STUDENT GOVERNMENT OFFICERS President—Mark Brunswick Secretary—Marsha Ramirez Vice-president—Shirley Robinson Sponsor—Mr. Neely Before the start of our senior year in school. we were all called upon to select whom we felt to be some of our most outstanding classmates as officers of the sen- ior class. We didn’t have to look far, because some of our classmates had already distinguished themselves as outstanding leaders. When the ballots had been cast, few were surprised at the final results. Our class lead- ers have served well and are verv able leaders. The Football-O-Rama answered our questions. The Rough Riders displayed a well oiled winged-T for- mation with an unbalanced line. This formation, along with several variations, proved to be quite capable of getting the job done. Co-captain Jack Sukup was the leader or quarterback and did quite a capable job. He was ably assisted by the tremendous run- ning of Cliff Hardy. Both boys received various honors for their outstanding performances. Charlie Woods, Mike Doktysz, Rich Kuzydym, Foster Battle and Dwight Gaines all shared the backfield load and aided the Rough Rider cause The Roosevelt line play was also outstanding throughout the year, both on offense and on defense. The linemen were led by GAME SCORES co-captain Rene Banks, Helmut Goral, Elias Hardy, Joe Kusiak, g 7 Ham. Tec! John Prusiecki, John Breclaw, Calvin Hardy and Jim Glowacki RH! 2 Ham. Clark Ham. Cliff Hardy, Woods and Doktysz eac h scored one touc hdown. In the Hammond Tech game we scored in the second quarter and there was no more scoring throughout the game. Sukup went in for the only score and Villa kicked for the extra point. The final score was RHS 7 and Tech 0 [he next weekend we played Hammond Clark. We were quite successful, for the final score read RHS 12 and HHS 7. Jack Sukup and Cliff Hardy each scored one touchdown. There were several anxious moments though, for a missed extra point almost sealed our doom, but we scored again and came out on top Now the pressure was beginning to mount. Our next contest with Valporaiso was also a squeaker. Again Cliff Hardy and Jack Sukup scored lone touchdowns to give us a 12—6 victory The Riders were now in full gear. Our next contest was against Morton and we defeated them quite handily. Plesniak, Woods, and Doktysz each scored one touchdown and made our homecoming celebration a success. The final score read RHS 32 and Whiting 6 Next came the top game of the yeal We traveled over to South Bend to play St. Joeseph, which had been rated in the top ten all year just as we had. The game was nip and tuck in the first half, but we could not overcome their strong line play and hard running backs. Kuzydym scored our only touchdown in the second quarter. The final score read St Joe 38 and RHS 7 Now with our still fine record we had to play East Chicago Washington They brought over a fine team and had us down 14—0 in the first quarter. Then with what might be called the come- back effort of the decade, we did what seemed to be almost impossi- ble. In the second quarter we scored 14 points, added 13 in the third quarter and added 7 more in the last quarter to defeat Wash- ington by a score of 34—21. ROW VARSITY BASKETBALL Having lost all five starters from his 1964 basketball squad, Coach Ray Walker faced the unenviable task of trying to assemble a strong squad for this 1964-65 bas- ketball season. Coach Walker’s task was lar more complicated than that of most coaches, for he had the problem of waiting until the conclusion of football season to pick up seventy-five per cent of his basketball squad. His final starting five at the end of the season was comprised of four of these football players Our overall season record was 8 wins and 13 losses Ihis record is somewhat leading though, for on a number of occasions our boys played some inspiring exciting basketball.
