Our first days at high school proved to Roose- velt that we were an energetic class, with enthu- siasm to back that energy. Attending our first out of town game at Evansville, freshman dancing classes, the Korn Huskers dance, and our first Turnabout showed that we were becoming a part of everything. I'ina Benedetto was chosen fresh- man cheerleader. Our first showdown and class picnic ended our freshman year happily. Our sophomore year l egan with the addition of many new faces who came from Washington. Even if we did free e to death, the Washington- Roosevelt football game proved a great victory for us. 'I he biology class with Mr. Amidei was our most talked about subject for it was cpiite an experience to dissect animals. We marveled at the thought that we could now have drivers training. Several of us were receiving bids to the various clubs. We became a part of the social life for our class was well represented at the June Prom. We started our junior year by electing Leonard Friend. President. Stan Florek. Vice President, and Tina Benedetto as Secretary-Treasurer of our class. Our boys played a great football game at South Bend. The bus ride was almost as excit- ing as the game. We anxiously awaited each | eriod when Miss Swatts would so dramatically read Mac Beth. The basket ball tournament nearly broke our hearts because wc lost the sec- tionals to Hammond High. Also that year our first teacher-student basket ball game was held. The Girl Counselor's Breakfast for the senior girls and the junior picnic ended our social events. Stan Florek was elected president of the student government. Vic Grus ka. Vice President and Marilyn Lerch. Secretary-Treasurer. Well, we finally made it. seniors at last. With the first clay of school we began to reali e that we were the ones that all of the underclassmen would l x»k up to. The home-coming game and dance were Ixith a huge success. We played Emerson, and our cjueen was Joan Nagy; her attendants were Phyllis Slifko and Jeanne Dobos. Then came the Washington game, we lost, but our lx ys really ixmrayed gcxxl salesmanship that night. The king and queen of the Brown Derby dance were Vic Grus ka and Marilyn Botos. The basket ball games Ix-gan and the Rough Riders lx»wed to the Senators the first game of the tournament. The winter formal completed our first semester with practically everyone attending. The Showdown rolled around as usual with many of the Seniors par- ticipating. Then came the Prom. All the girls Icxixed Ix-autiiul in their fluffy formats, and the thought that it was the last brought tears to many seniors. Rough Rider clay, the senior pic- nic. and class night came all tcx sexin. Then Sun- day was Baccalaureate, and our eyes were misty with thoughts of the past and dreams for the future. Then it came. yes. graduation was here. We thought we would surely faint Ixdore our diplomas were handed to us. And then it was all over, but we want you to remember us Roose- velt. because we will never forget you. Fngr sixteen
