VARSITY FooTBALL The football season siartzd off by this state' ment by Coach Rucinski, I hate to use the old argument of rebuilding, but that's exactly what confronts Coach Miller and me. We have good material, but it is green. When asked how the spirit was, he remarked. Boy, they really have got it. We started to work on the first day of practice. This statement was proved when the team, after being defeated by South Bend Washing- ton, came back with co-conference and mythi- cal state titles. The first of this undefeated Page Forty-four comeback was a thrilling whitewash of Ham- mond Clark to the tune of 26 to 0. After tasting the sweetness of victory, the Rough Riders over- powered the Evansville Panthers by a score of 38 to 13, the statistics being 428 yards for the Riders and a mere 113 yards by Reitz. Now the Riders were taking on the forrn of teams of old, at they routed Hammond Tech, 38 to 7, in what proved to be another example of Roosevelt Rock'em and Sock'em spirit. This put the Riders into the second place rating with the goal in sight of being state champs again.
