A r A' tc zttco cr I tzxto the amor of loy, 5 1 y u Q tt 'lr 't pat! ms c. 1 , I xc hvzng and f Lth. fc a ' 0 11 s c r. sgon SENIOR CLASS SPONSORS Mr Bunker Mr Keller Mr Amldei Mr Apostle Mr Maury Mrs Hen ry CLASS FLOWER White Rose CLASS COLORS Silver and Green MOTTO Give the world the best you have and the best will come back to you OFFICERS George Kurteff President Garland Butler Vice President Reg Skilling Business Manager Marilyn Miller Secretary Seniors at last' As freshmen that day seemed like rt would never come now as seniors we wish it had taken longer We entered Roosevelt as green freshmen looking for ward to four full years of pleasure We showed our enthusiasm by holdrng the first successful dancing class in two vears We made new fnends and held a St Patncks Day Dance and in April we held our first dress up dance Then came our freshman party It was really swell We held it after school but as for as we were concerned it made no difference To close our year we held our first class prcmc rn Iune As sophomores we came back in September 1946 full of enthusiasm to cheer the football team on to a second State Championship After all that excitement we were thnlled wher we made our Sophomore party a success Not many classes had attempted a sophomore party but we knew the class of 49 could do it At the close of the year many girls were chosen to be members of the YTeen Cabinet and Girl Counselors and the boys were looking forward to playing varsity on the basketball football and other teams In 1947 we were begmnmg to look important as Juniors We were eager to get back to school to start our reign of being rmportant We cheered our football team to the third championship in three years and were begrnnmg to feel they couldnt qet along without us We took part rn preparing for the winter formal and many of us attented it for the first trme We will never forget th Sock Hop that year along with all the other dances For the first time smce the war we held a Showdown which drew a capacity crowd With the help of our class offrcers Alberta Such Pat Mulvr hill and Ann Mane Goysrch we held our first prom with the seniors As we dressed in our formals and tuxedoes we knew we were finally important figures in school Despite this it wasnt until our senior year that we felt the pnde which made us mightly seniors We started the year off by electmg our senior class officers George Kurteff Presrdent Garland Butler Vice Presr dent Reg Skilling Business Manager and Marilyn Miller Secretary We traveled to Evansville to back our great football team But alas the time had come' We had to take the bitter with the sweet we lost the championship that 774? Seadoo Nor year It was the first time we tasted defeat m three years and it wasnt easy But the team was still great in our eyes and we had a big Homecoming celebration The girls went as far as to give a girl s football game To make this an extra soeclal celebration Anna Belle Lowe was chosen for Homecoming Queen We st1ll retained the Brown Derby and Ice Milan and Annre Goysich were chosen Brown Derby Kmg and Queen The YTeens sponsored a Tum About Dance which was a huge success The girls paid the bill bought corsages and enjoyed themselves as much as the gloatmg boys At Chnstmas the merchants staged a huge parade and the seniors picked Rrta Marszalek and Mary Margaret Clark to reign as M1ss Merry Chnstmas and Miss Happy New Year The holidays were scarcely over when we had our winter formal My Blue Heaven The big night came for the Mid graduates when in diplomas A Get Acquarnted dance was sponsored by the Student Government which drew the biggest crowd ever As basketball tourney time approached our enthu srasm was at its peek We cheered our team on to the semifinals where they were defeated by Hammond H1 Spring fever set in about April but we kept working We worked and planned the showdown The Silver Jubilee Also in April the YTeens sponsored their annual sock hop changmg it to a Memory Hop In May we celebrated our 25th anniversary with the alumm and community and we will never forget that We enloyed Hobo Day and knew graduation wasnt far off At last Iune l949' The month of all months It was no less exciting than our expectations We racked our brarns to work out funny skits for Class Day If we must say so 1t tumed out swell and we then left for our last class picnic at the Dunes The followmg day was the prom and it was the last dance at school Baccalaureate was held Sunday night and then came the big night As we walked up the aisle to Auld Lang Syne we realized we had at last graduated but the memones of those wonderful days that we had spent at R H S would always be treasured . The orchestra gave three public performances which were very well received by the audience. The best of orchestral literature is presented to the players, which ultimately results in an appreciation of the finest music. Allied organiations are the Pit Orchestra and the String Ensemble. All are under the direction of Mr. Joseph Cohen, assisted by Miss M. Brewer. BAND A quarter ot a century ago, the twenty-eight piece band ot McKinley High School headed a parade up Magoun Avenue from McKinley to Roosevelt. That day the Roosevelt High School band was born. The band now has approximately seventy pieces. High standard of excellence have been maintained in spite ot their ups and downs. During the years when the band was permitted to enter band contests they did well having county. regional, and state wins to its credit. It was a singular accomplishment to appear in concert so early in the school year. Then came the annual Christmas concert. in which the Choir always takes a prominent part. The second semester always brings the Spring Festival and the presentation of outstanding choral music. The membership numbers sixty students who work together in a spirit ol good fellowship.
