Class Flower SEN IORS CLASS OF 1948 'A' ir ir Here it is -A l948. lust four short years ago, a group of frightened freshmen put in their appearance at R. H. S. Our freshmen party was the high spot of the year ln our sophomore year we gradually became active in school affairs such as the Y-Teens, debating, football, wrestling, and basketball, Seeing that we were sophomores the high spot of that year was the Winter Formal. ln 1946 and '47 we were beginning to become the dignified upperclassmen The girls joined the Girl Counsellors and the boys Joined the Boys Welfare. Elections for important positions were being sought by the interested students - Y-Teens, Girl Counsellors, editors of school publications, and sport captains. Of course, the high spot of '47 was the Iunior-Senior Prom. Now in our senior year we have memories of three state Championship football teams, the Winter Formal, Class Day, the Senior Picnic, the all school talent show, our senior play --- Dear Ruth , and the luniorfSenior Prom. These are memories that our class will cherish anal remember the rest of our live The best year of our lives -e the year of l94S, and araduation night.- the high spot of this new year. THE CLASS Were wonderful, were marvelous, Were stupendous, we are great. Who in the heck are we? you ask. l.Ve're the class of '48 We ditch on every 'l'ue-:relay Were always late to class, We cooly snub the hall guards And never have a pass. OF '48 The Freshmen are below us The Sophomores just dont rate The luniors really bore us Were the class of '48 W:-'ie woililly-wire and smarter' We ll someday all he areat Well beat all those before 11.1 -- Vtlere the class of 48 -- Mary Ann Crowson Tfiirfy-one FRANK KMAK President RUDY VALENTINO Vice-President PAT DARLSON Secretary MARCELLA MARCINEK Business Manager SENIOR CLASS SPONSORS Mr. Bunker Senior Counselor Mr. Dennis Miss Larson Miss Nassau Miss Nesbit Miss Swatts Miss Darrcxgh WHITE HOSE Class Color FRENCH BLUE AND Motto Out of the Harbor Into Deep Channels SILVER ADAMS WILLIAM IW TFIIINITCII 93 z rt ALGOZZINI IOHN rr- lm Frm Dx cm A mm ANDERSON ROBERT frm Tfix V' I I 1 Romain Ncxtmnnl Honor QCCIPI ' K 'N F Il. Roosevelt has won 31 consecutive games, and has been mythical state champs three years in succession. Many coaches have vowed they will break Pete Rucinski's winning streak. But it seems to be dilticult Varlv in August Coaches Rucinski and Miller began conditioning their candidates with hours of hard blocking sti'i calisthenics and back breaking charges. But it seemed as it Roosevelt would not have any opponents be tore its Battle of the Century with Hammond High School on September l9. But they were challenged bv Tolleston on September l2, and gladly accepted, They met on the Rider Field and Tolleston jumped to an early 5-O lead, but the determined Riders fought back with Don- aldson plunging over tor the touchdown, and converting the extra point as the halt ended. Returning to the gridiron otter a lew well- chosen words from Coach Rucinski, the gi- gantic Rough Rider machine began to pulver- ize the hapless Blue Raiders. After the bodies had been collected and the dust settled, Roosef velt emerged as the victor by a score of 3543. This battle pepped up the Riders and they prepared to meet the boasttul Hammond High team in the next crucial game on their sched- ule. Friday came, hot and humid, as thou- sands ol spectators packed the field expecting to see the game of the year. From the opening Sixty AGAIN AND AGAIN gun the Riders made it mighty tough on the Cats. The first score was a field goal by Euf gene Donaldson, brilliant lunior fullback, and it was quickly followed by speedy Henry Homco, who went into the end zone for an ad- ditional six points. Then Hammond High settled down and began to make it tough on the Rid' ers. in the second quarter the Cats scored fol- lowing a fumbled punt by Roosevelt. The gun sounded, ending the half. Roosevelt: 9 - Harn- mond High: 5, Roosevelt returned to the field and scored early in the third quarter on a pass from Ronnie Clark to Frank Kmak. This ended the scoring for the night with Roosevelt winning l6-l3. After the game, ten thousand spectators went away still shaking their heads in amazement at the smashing line play, hard running, fierce tackling, and vicious blocking displayed by the rampaging Rough Riders as they successfully added another victim to their long winning streak. Evansville Reitz was the next for barrina Roosevelts bid to fame. Because of injury to Ronnie Clark, Bill Holzbach took over, He sparked the Riders to their 25th consecutive victory by scoring two touchdowns and setting up the other two.
